Despite the small packaging, the scope of delivery of the smart doorbell is quite extensive. In addition to the video doorbell itself, the packaging also contains the battery pack, USB-C cable, wall bracket, adapter for 15° mounting, drilling template, extension cable, bell wires for the existing chime and a quick-start guide.

Eufy Video Doorbell E340 test: Design and workmanship

In terms of design, the E340 with its upright format looks like many other video doorbells. What I really like are the sharp edges, which set the manufacturer apart from most of the competition. Once you hold the 150 x 51.6 x 28.2 mm doorbell, which weighs just under 236 g, in your hands, it makes a very high-quality impression. It doesn’t crack or creak anywhere.

It is also protected against dust and water in accordance with the IP65 standard. The main camera and bell button, which is surrounded by a blue LED ring, are located on the front. The Ring series from Amazon sends its regards. The company logo is located between the two elementary components, which makes for a very tidy look. A closer look reveals even more technology.

There are four infrared LEDs, a microphone, a light sensor and a motion sensor on the front. There is an LED strip on the top so that you can also see colorful moving images at night. The front is slightly slanted towards the bottom. There is another camera here that films the ground in front of your front door. This allows you to see parcels that are dropped off here, for example. There are two more LEDs to the left and right of the lower camera.

Eufy Video Doorbell E340 test: battery or power connection

Spoilt for choice? This is rarely the case with a video doorbell. After all, it’s more of a blessing if you have the flexibility to decide whether the doorbell should be wired or run on battery power. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Although you can choose the location freely with battery operation and avoid wiring, you also have to charge it regularly.

Big advantage: the battery is replaceable

I used the bell with battery in the test. Thanks to the replaceable design, you don’t have to factor in long charging times when the bell can’t be used. However, if you still want to use a cable instead, you will find the connections on the back. You can then use your existing bell wire here.

Eufy Video Doorbell E340 test: Setup via the app

The Eufy app is one of the clearest and most user-friendly smartphone applications on the entire market. This is of course also evident with the Eufy Video Doorbell E340. After opening the app and creating a user account, you can easily add it as a new device. Here we explain step by step what you need to do.

The focus here is on the connection to the home network. The smart doorbell transmits at 2.4 GHz for this purpose. Once set up, simply mount the doorbell in the designated place. The corresponding mounting material (screws and wall plugs) is included in the scope of delivery.

Eufy Video Doorbell E340 test: The Eufy app

Once you have successfully set up the video doorbell, you can adjust it to your requirements in the Eufy app. Recording quality, lighting, siren volume, app display and so on. There are a wide range of setting options here. The smart doorbell has some exciting features in store. These include intelligent alarms, for example.

If you don’t fancy battery operation, you can use the power connection on the back

The doorbell distinguishes between different movements. Is it a person, a parcel or another object? The app will tell you. Face recognition is also really cool. Here, your smartphone pictures are searched for faces, provided you are authorized of course. The doorbell then recognizes whether a known or unknown face is standing in front of the door.

You can also adjust the LED settings in the app

The Delivery Guard, on the other hand, notifies you via the app when you have received a parcel. Individual settings can be made for these individual points. You can also record voice messages that are then played back by the doorbell. It is also possible to switch lights on automatically. The live control of parcels is also exciting.

If you have given your parcel delivery company a drop-off authorization, you can always keep an eye on everything with this control option. For security, you can specify who has approached the parcel since it was delivered. If you want to operate your smart doorbell in compliance with the GDPR, you should also define the data protection zones accordingly. Areas of public space and neighboring properties can be hidden here. This guarantees the data protection rights of neighbors and third parties.

Eufy Video Doorbell E340 test: camera quality

You can also see the quality of the cameras for yourself in the app. The most recently recorded image appears on the start page. If you want to access the live image, simply press the arrow. Then not only one camera image opens, but the images from both cameras.

While the main camera shows the area in front of your door, the downward-facing camera shows your doorstep. As Eufy arranges the images one below the other in the app, this does not cause any confusion. If you still have problems with this, you can adjust it accordingly.

When looking at the live image, for example, you can also use the two-way audio in real time to talk to the visitor. It is also possible to switch the LEDs on or off. In terms of image quality, the Eufy Video Doorbell E340 gives no cause for complaint. The main camera comes with a pleasingly sharp 2K resolution.

The moving images are not only sharp, but also score points with great, vivid colors. At night, you also get very sharp images in black and white. When the LEDs are switched on, it is even possible to take color pictures at night. The cameras and their sensors always responded reliably in practice, which is why there is no reason for criticism here.

Eufy Video Doorbell E340 test: smart home and storage

The Eufy Video Doorbell E340 is compatible with the popular voice assistants Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. For example, you can display the current live image from the cameras on your smart screen after a voice command. Unfortunately, that’s it for compatibility with other smart home systems. Anyone who prefers to use Apple HomeKit or Samsung Smartthings, for example, will be left out in the cold. Perhaps Eufy will release a software update to add further services.

An important issue with video doorbells is of course the video storage. Eufy does not rely on a mandatory subscription here, as is the case with Amazon’s Ring products, for example. Instead, thanks to 8 GB of internal eMMC memory, you don’t have to worry about follow-up costs. The recordings are simply stored on the memory and can be accessed at any time. This not only saves a lot of money. What’s more, some people might feel more comfortable if the recordings are stored locally rather than in a cloud.

Conclusion

The Eufy Video Doorbell E340 really impressed me in the test. And this is not only due to its stylish appearance and high build quality. The exciting dual camera system is also really impressive. The main camera provides a comprehensive overview of your front garden. The downward-facing camera ensures that you can always keep an eye on packages. Both cameras offer great image quality and can record color night vision thanks to the built-in LEDs. But the processing of the moving images is also exciting. Eufy offers various features such as delivery protection, parcel detection and facial recognition.

Eufy Video Doorbell E340 Test

These worked just as well in the test as motion detection and person detection. Another highlight is the fact that there is no paid cloud storage. Instead, the recordings can be saved locally on the internal eMMC memory. The only thing that annoys me is the limited smart home compatibility. The smart doorbell only works with Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant. If you use a different system, you should definitely keep this in mind. Everyone else gets a powerful video doorbell that may be expensive, but offers a whole host of functions and no follow-up costs.

The Eufy Video Doorbell E340 scored highly in the test with its flexibility, great AI features and lack of follow-up costs. However, more smart home compatibility would have been great.
