CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 test: design and workmanship

Even at first glance, the CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 is simply different. This is because the wearable comes with a round AMOLED display, for which you usually had to dig deeper into your pocket until now.

The Nothing subsidiary is in the same price range as the Canyon Smartwatch Badian SW-68 (our test), but is ahead in terms of technology in particular, while the Canyon model appears to be of a slightly higher quality. But the Watch Pro 2 doesn’t look cheap at all.

The large frame (bezel) around the display is striking and has a special feature. This is because the bezel can be easily removed and replaced with a short anti-clockwise twist.

The bezel can be easily replaced

There are currently two different sets available in the CMF store, each containing a bezel in dark and light gray, as well as bracelets in blue and orange. A little personalization is always nice, isn’t it? Even if I would have liked to see bigger differences here.

But so be it. The rest of the CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 will look all too familiar to connoisseurs of smartwatches. There is no additional button on the side, but there is a clickable and rotatable crown at the top right. Although it is not quite as smooth-running as we are used to from Apple or Huawei, there really isn’t much to complain about.

The build quality is impeccable, especially as the smartwatch is IP68 water-resistant. The watch also feels very comfortable in the hand, which is also due to the soft synthetic leather straps.

In short: with the exception of the thick bezel, the CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2, which is compatible with iOS and Android, is well above its price range.

Features, connectivity and battery life

  • Good features; smooth operation
  • Simple setup
  • Around 7 days of battery life

The features of the CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 are really impressive. The wearable features a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels and a maximum brightness of 620 nits.

The manufacturer does not provide any further information on the chip used and there are no details in the system information either, but the performance gives no cause for criticism, which is also due to the minimalist interface of the smartwatch.CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2

Nothing connoisseurs will be pleasantly reminded of the manufacturer’s smartphones, such as the new Nothing Phone 2a Plus (our review) with NothingOS. The wearable naturally offers a Bluetooth connection for pairing with the smartphone and has a multi-system GPS for tracking during sport.

There is also a built-in speaker and microphone so that calls can also be made via Bluetooth using the watch. AI noise suppression is supposed to filter out ambient noise, which worked quite well in the test.

Other features of the CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 include customizable gesture control, over 120 sports modes, 24-hour health monitoring and sleep monitoring.

Practical companion app, 7-day runtime

During testing on iOS, I also noticed that the wearable reliably recognizes sporting activities and displays a notification that Apple Watch users will be familiar with. The watch recognizes when you are moving and asks whether this should be recorded as a sporting activity. That’s something you don’t usually find in this price range.

The connection to iOS and Android using the CMS Watch app also works flawlessly, and pairing is quick and easy. Within the app, you can choose from over 100 watch faces, customize the health monitoring or adjust the widgets by swiping left and right on the watch.

Another advantage of the minimalist design is the impressive battery life. I wasn’t able to achieve the 11 days specified by the manufacturer, but seven days of battery life were possible without any problems, despite the active 24-hour blood pressure measurement, always-on display and sleep tracking.

Display, sensors and everyday testing

  • Pleasantly bright display
  • Smooth operation
  • Heart rate measurement and pedometer rather inaccurate

I also like the display of the CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 very much. It is bright enough to ensure good readability even in direct sunlight.

With the selection of watch faces, there is something for everyone. From classic analog designs to modern digital looks and more unusual options, absolutely everything is included.

The selection of watch faces is pleasing. These are also customizable

Operation using swipe gestures works reliably and smoothly, just as you would expect from other smartwatches. Swiping from top to bottom calls up the quick menu, swiping from bottom to top calls up the notifications and from left to right and vice versa calls up the widgets.

Click on the crown to open the app list, which mainly consists of health functions and a few smaller apps such as weather, calculator and music. There is no app store or option to install additional applications.

Inaccurate heart rate measurement

As far as the sensors and their accuracy are concerned, the CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 unfortunately falls short. The heart rate measurement sometimes deviates significantly from other smartwatches and reference devices (+/- 10 bpm). Unfortunately, sleep tracking is also comparatively inaccurate, especially as the sleep phases are sometimes given cryptic names (sober probably means awake?).

The watch does not even record waking phases during the night. The result is significantly longer sleep times than was actually the case in reality. Unfortunately, the pedometer is not particularly accurate either. In a parallel test with a smartwatch from Huawei, the CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 recorded around 600 fewer steps over a whole day.

When it comes to measuring stress levels and blood oxygen saturation, however, the Watch Pro 2 is on a par with other, significantly more expensive wearables. The GPS takes quite a long time to find the position outdoors, but then scores with a relatively accurate location.

CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 test: Conclusion

With the CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2, you get an amazing amount of smartwatch for surprisingly little money. Of course, the sensors – especially the heart rate monitor and pedometer – are nowhere near as accurate as on more expensive wearables and the watch lacks functions such as NFC, Wi-Fi or even a mobile connection, but the watch does the basics wonderfully.

Training recording and blood oxygen saturation are quite accurate, the clear app provides some useful details for monitoring and the watch reliably masters notifications from the smartphone.

The CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 combines all of this with an attractive display and smooth operation. However, I think the interchangeable bezel is a nice but unnecessary gimmick.

Ultimately, it depends on what you expect from a smartwatch. If you mainly want to receive notifications, count steps and have your health monitored, the Watch Pro 2 is unbeatable at this price. However, if you value precise training recording and NFC, you will have to pay more.
