Oukitel RT7 review: scope of delivery, design and workmanship

  • Comprehensive scope of delivery
  • Extremely robust and solid
  • Convincing haptics

The plain white box of the Oukitel RT7 contains quite a few accessories. Thus, the manufacturer not only includes a 33-watt charger including USB-C cable with the RT7 Titan tablet, but also a wrist strap, a SIM card tool, a carrying strap, and even a sturdy metal bracket that can be attached to the back of the tablet with screws.

Oukitel RT7
Oukitel includes quite a few handy accessories with the tablet

The RT7 itself is anything but a lightweight. The tablet weighs 1,243 grams and measures 249 mm x 16.9 mm x 19.8 mm (width x height x depth). The weight is hardly surprising due to the high-quality and robust build, especially since the RT7 also has a 32,000 mAh battery.

On the front, we find the 10.1-inch display, which unfortunately has quite large display edges, as well as the front-facing camera, which is also used for facial recognition. Outkitel relies on a grippy, rubberized surface with blue details at the back and sides, which makes the tablet very comfortable to hold despite its high weight.

The metallic triple camera setup at the back also catches the eye. There are also four holes where the metal bracket can be screwed in. This can be used as a stand, for example, or to hang the tablet on.

On the top, the RT7 has a combined SIM and microSD card slot, which is protected against dust and water behind a rubberized cover, just like the USB-C port on the left.

No wonder, since the device is protected according to military standard MIL-STD810H and has an IP68 / IP69K certification. There are also speakers and microphones on the left and right, as well as a volume rocker and a pleasantly grippy power button on the right.

The robust workmanship of the Oukitel RT7 makes a very high-quality impression, but the screen protector that was already applied at the factory has a few small bubbles and cracks. Otherwise, the outdoor device should cope very well even with drops.

Display and speaker of the Oukitel RT7 Titan

  • High-resolution 10.1-inch display
  • Only 60 Hz; highly reflective
  • Stereo speakers; quite tinny sound

In our test, the Oukitel RT7 relies on a 10.1-inch LCD IPS display that resolves in Full HD+ with 1,920 x 1,200 pixels. It offers a very pleasant sharpness and decent contrasts, and it is also relatively bright with around 400 nits, although the brightness is not quite sufficient to ensure convincing legibility in direct sunlight.

On the other hand, it is a shame that the display is limited to a refresh rate of 60 hertz and is highly reflective. In addition, a slight green tint is noticed in white content, but it doesn’t really make a big impact.

As is typical for IPS, the viewing angle stability is particularly impressive. It is also possible to use the stylus, but unfortunately this is not included in the scope of delivery. Basically, the touchscreen works very precisely and reliably, while operation with gloves is also possible.

However, the speakers do not perform as well in the Oukitel RT7 review. Although they are pleasantly loud, they sound a bit tinny and lack detail.

Performance and practical test

  • Fast and quite modern CPU
  • Excellent system performance
  • Modern standards

The Oukitel RT7 relies on the MediaTek Dimensity 720 octa-core processor, which combines four ARM Cortex-A76 (2 GHz) with ARM Cortex-A55 (2 GHz) and an ARM Mali-G57 MC3 GPU. The duo is supported by 12 GB of dedicated and up to 12 gigabytes of virtual working memory, which promise good system performance.

Internally, apps, pictures and videos are stored on the 256 GB system memory, which can be expanded via microSD card. Connectivity standards are Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1, which are convincing in terms of reception and speed. As for the SIM card, the tablet even supports the 5G standard in addition to LTE, which is a novelty in the field of outdoor tablets.

The system performance of the device that comes with Android 13 and a security patch from August 2023 is convincing. Navigation and use were pleasantly smooth and error-free.

Even in the multitasking test with several apps open or the benchmark stress tests, the RT7 Titan did not make any mistakes. Jerkiness, throttling or the like are absolutely not noticeable.

The right modern combination of CPU and GPU achieves good to very good rates in the benchmark tests, for example 1,939 multi-core and 1,421 GPU OpenCL points in Geekbench 6. 1,351 points in 3DMark Wildlife are also a good, but by no means outstanding result.

Benchmark Result
PCMark Work 3.0 8,227 points
Geekbench 6 Single-Core 652 points
Geekbench 6 Multi-Core 1,939 points
Geekbench 6 GPU 1,421 points
3DMark Wild Life 1,351 points
3DMark Wild Life Extreme 375 points

The Oukitel RT7 is only suitable for gaming ambitions to a limited extent, but the general system performance pleases across the board. Especially since navigation via GPS is fast and flawless.

Practical impressions of the Oukitel RT7

  • Up-to-date Android 13
  • No bloatware
  • Practical tool apps

The convincing system performance is also immediately obvious in practice. Multitasking, more demanding apps, navigation and route guidance – all no problem. It is also very pleasant to notice that the Oukitel RT7 is shipped almost free of any bloatware (truly rare for Chinese manufacturers).

In addition to the classic Google apps, you can expect some useful little helpers like a flashlight, FM radio or a sound recorder. Practical tools for everyday work can be found in the “Tool Bag” folder.

In it, the manufacturer integrates, for example, a compass, a sound meter, a spirit level, magnifying glass and much more.

Braking 32,000 mAh battery

  • Brashy 32,000 mAh capacity battery
  • Excellent runtimes
  • Reverse charge function (power bank)

A flagship of the Oukitel RT7 is of course the gigantic battery with a capacity of 32,000 milliampere hours, which is more than three times larger than in most other tablets – the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 (our review), for example, only comes with 8,000 mAh.

In combination with the quite frugal processor and display, this makes for outstanding runtimes. Thus, the RT7 lost just 1 percent (!) capacity in our benchmark series of Geekbench 6, 3DMark Wildlife, Wildlife Extreme (including stress test) and PCMark Work 3.0.

Playing a video on YouTube with Wi-Fi and full display brightness also sucked only 2% of capacity in one hour. The manufacturer’s claims of up to 180 days in standby and 35 hours of video playback thus seem absolutely realistic.

Especially since the tablet is also able to supply smartphone, notebook or headphones with energy thanks to Reverse Charge. Thus, you are also well prepared for longer hikes without access to the power grid.

Charging takes place via USB-C at a maximum speed of 33 watts, and due to the gigantic capacity, a complete charging process takes a good six hours – although 70 percent is already charged after 3 hours.

The cameras of the RT7 Titan

  • Good image quality on both the main and selfie cameras
  • Practical night vision camera
  • Macro camera unusable; low FPS videos

The manufacturer has not skimped on the cameras in the Oukitel RT7 either. On the rear, a 48-megapixel main camera including AI focus is combined with a 20 MP night vision camera and a 2 MP macro lens. The front camera has a resolution of 32 megapixels. The tablet records videos in 4K resolution, but the frame rate is shockingly low.

On the back, the Oukitel RT7 relies on three cameras

Photos with the main camera show quite a good level of detail in good lighting conditions. The color reproduction is also convincing, while the post-processing on the software side is not too aggressive. However, the image becomes noticeably blurrier towards the edges. Nevertheless, the main camera shoots good pictures for a tablet.

Unlike the macro lens, which is completely useless with its low resolution and lack of sharpness.

However, the night vision camera makes up for that. Although it cannot quite keep up with more expensive outdoor smartphones, it still depicts a pleasing level of detail in complete darkness.

On the other hand, the selfie cam scores quite well again in terms of detail, but it shakes quickly without a stabilizer and cannot fully convince in terms of color reproduction, either.

Oukitel RT7 Selfie Camera

Nevertheless: for a tablet, the image quality is actually relatively good.

Oukitel RT7 review: Conclusion

The Oukitel RT7 convinces in the test with a thoroughly coherent overall package at a fair price. The tablet’s sturdy build, which even has no problems with dust and water, as well as the simply gigantic battery with impressive runtimes are particularly positive.

The system performance also leaves hardly anything to be desired and allows smooth and impeccable use, although gaming ambitions are of course not served. Even the main and selfie cameras can convince with photos for a tablet, and 5G connectivity is more than just a nice bonus.

However, points are deducted for the very reflective 60 Hz display, the other cameras and the unconvincing speakers. Thus, those looking for a robust (and correspondingly heavy) tablet for outdoor use will earn a lot of money with the Oukitel RT7. This is exactly the purpose of the tablet.
