AOC Q27G2U: 27 inch QHD gaming monitor with 144 Hz under test

Just a quick glance at its properties shows: The Q27G2U gaming monitor from AOC is a display of the new, upper middle class. A 27-inch screen diagonal, 144Hz FPS and 1ms response time as well as a WQHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, this is a truly impressive feature set. Design

The AOC Q27G2U comes with the typical design of AOC gaming monitors. It looks very modern with its sharp edges and the spread stand. With its red design elements on the front and back and the extra thin edges, it fits perfectly into every gaming room. Thanks to its almost frameless design, it can be ideally used in multi-monitor setups.

To the right of the AOC logo at the bottom of the screen, you can see the small icons for the controls. The buttons themselves are located directly below, at the bottom of the monitor. The symbols could be a bit more visible, as they are stamped in as if they were punched in, and often cannot be seen properly. As with other monitors in the AOC gaming series, the base consists of two spread struts, which ensure a secure stand. The stand does not take up too much space on the desk, so that a controller, for example, has room underneath. An opening in the foot eliminates chaotic tangle of cables and connected cables are hardly noticeable.

Usage

The ergonomic features of the AOC Q27G2U include a tiltability between -3.5° and 21.5°. It can be rotated sideways from -30° to +30° and can be adjusted up to 130 mm in height up and down. The monitor also offers a pivot function and a 100 x 100 VESA mount.

The menu can be operated using the buttons on the bottom of the monitor. Their position is not always easy to distinguish. Sometimes you press something that feels like the switch, but only lands slightly off. This can be a bit frustrating, especially when it has to be done quickly. The menu is also a bit confusing. But once you have found your way around, you can handle it well. As in most monitors, all connections are accessible from the bottom of the backside.

Picture quality

The picture quality of the AOC Q27G2U leaves nothing to be desired for this price range. Even if the built-in VA panel doesn’t display colors as splendidly as an IPS panel, this display is definitely worth seeing. The most important features here are rather a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz and the WQHD resolution with 2560 x 1440 pixels, also called “QHD”. So you can enjoy beautiful, high-resolution graphics without getting lost in fast image movements. This gives you the speed advantage in fast shooters like Doom Eternal or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and, thanks to the high resolution, the absolute overview in strategy and construction games like Anno 1800. AMD Freesync Premium additionally provides for the smoothest display. The 27-inch monitor owes the fact that the eyes are not strained too long even during long gaming sessions to the flicker-free technology.

Conclusion

The AOC Q27G2U is a powerful 27″ gaming monitor with lots of features. In the WQHD display segment, it is the perfect companion for gamers of all kinds. In the test, the monitor was convincing in every respect, even if the control directly on the display requires some getting used to.

Overall, the Q27G2U from AOC is a super monitor for gamers who don’t want to immediately enter the high-priced upper class, but still don’t want to make any compromises.
