The choice of keyboard does not require much effort on the part of the average PC user. Either one of these is already included in the scope of delivery, or it uses the cheapest model available. If the PC is only used occasionally, the choice of keyboard is actually irrelevant. However, gamers and other frequent users place much higher demands on their keyboards. This should be easy to operate, at best ergonomically designed, as quiet as possible and visually suitable. In addition, precision, writing and typing feel, workmanship and comfort functions are of course also important.

In general, a distinction can be made between high-quality mechanical switches and cheaper, less precise keys based on underlying rubber mats. The former guarantee much higher precision, are usually better processed and generally of higher quality.

The keyboard is available with a German layout – so there is no need to change the layout of the keys. It is connected via USB cable. After opening the quite respectable packaging of the keyboard, it should be noticeable that no software for controlling the RGB lighting is included. However, there is a reference to the homepage of the provider from which this software can be downloaded. The installation is self-explanatory and should be easy even for laymen. Afterwards you can adjust countless color effects. Each key can be assigned its own backlight. The various lighting profiles can be saved and then activated again and again. Anyone who has other Corsair products can also coordinate the lighting of the individual devices, which should further enhance the effect of the lighting effects. For fans of such effects this is certainly a very successful function. The Corsair K70 Lux RGB is a particularly appealing keyboard thanks to its countless effects, a wide range of possible combinations and the ability to save the profiles created.

Of course the macros for gamers should not be missing at this point. Each key can be provided with a macro that contains not only keystrokes, but also mouse movements and clicks.

Workmanship

The keyboard itself has a very high quality finish. Brushed aluminium and high-quality plastic give the Corsair K70 Lux RGB an appealing, elegant appearance. Also the keys are very well done. In comparison with other mechanical keys, they are indeed particularly quiet and should therefore be a boon to users who are sensitive to noise. The freestanding keys should also have a positive effect during longer use, making the gaming keyboard particularly easy to clean.

All corners of the keyboard are rounded, yet there are edges due to the metal plate, which protrudes slightly. Already at the first sight of the 1.2 kilogram heavy keyboard you can see that it is a very high quality product.

Practice Test

A free USB port is required on the computer to connect the keyboard. After it has been plugged in, it is automatically detected and lights up red. Directly on the keyboard is a USB input that can be used to connect a gaming mouse or charge your smartphone. For this to work, the keyboard must be connected to a second USB port. This means that the speed is not shared by a USB port, but that separate connections are available for keyboard and hub. This will be especially important for gamers who don’t want a delay due to overloading a USB port.

The keyboard is ergonomically designed. If required, the wrist-rest supplied can be mounted. This support is particularly recommended for long periods of use in order to ensure optimum positioning of the hands. Pain is thus effectively avoided. In the test, the palm rest is particularly pleasant due to its surface – you can hardly do without it anymore. However, it could have been a little bigger, even if this would have had a negative effect on the optics. As a further ergonomic feature, the gaming keyboard offers not only a rear stand, but also a front stand. This allows the entire keyboard to be elevated.

The first time you use the keyboard, you will notice that the keys are indeed extremely precise and quiet. Pressing a button is hardly audible. In addition, the keys are well crafted, which makes typing a pleasant experience. Keycaps for the keys Q, W, E, R, A, S, D and F, which have a rough surface, are included in the scope of delivery. They should give the finger more grip and thus give gamers slight advantages. These keycaps can be mounted with the enclosed tool without much effort.

Multimedia keys are located on the upper right side of the keyboard, just below the volume control. The latter consists of a small wheel that can be turned up and down. The operation is possible without annoying squeaking or rattling, which once again confirms the good workmanship. There you will also find a key for deactivating certain keys (combinations), such as the Windows key. In addition, the brightness of the lighting can be controlled at the touch of a button.

The software necessary for adjusting the lighting effects is not included in the form of a CD. It is provided as a download instead. After the software has been loaded, the lighting effects and macros can be adjusted effortlessly. For this no further knowledge is required, since the operation of the software is intuitively possible.

The Corsair K70 Lux RGB with MX silent keys is a very high-quality keyboard that should satisfy all requirements. It offers a pleasant writing feeling, but also fast reactions in games. It can be individually adjusted by macros and lighting. Especially the dedicated multimedia keys including volume wheel are convincing. The software is just as mature as the hardware.
