Design and workmanship
- high-quality workmanship
- good heat dissipation
- Aluminum housing
I think the casing of the Kioxia Exceria Plus is very successful. The matt gray of the aluminum housing looks very classy and the SSD fits very well in the hand due to its size and rounded edges. The USB-C port is very easy to reach and all in all, the SSD is a visual eye-catcher. To be able to assess the inner values of the Kioxia Exceria Plus, I opened the casing. Inside the case, an NVMe SSD is installed next to the circuit board. I spared myself any further disassembly of the SSD so as not to damage it permanently.
I noticed positively that the heat from the NVME SSD is dissipated to the case via a heat conduction pad. A simple and good solution on the part of the manufacturer.
Commissioning
- simple commissioning
- downloadable software via the manufacturer’s HP
Commissioning the Kioxia Exceria Plus Portable SSD Test is very simple and does not require any additional software or drivers. The SSD is compatible with Windows, MacOS, Linux and others (see table) and supports the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, enabling a high data transfer rate. It is automatically recognized by the operating system as soon as it is connected to a free USB port with the supplied cable and is already formatted for immediate use. The operating status of the SSD is indicated by an LED. The Kioxia Exceria Plus Portable SSD can be maintained using the in-house software (SSD utility).
In addition to the DISK information (load, temperature, interface used, etc.), software updates can be installed, a password can be assigned, relevant data can be read out and, in particular, data on the hard disk can be securely deleted. The system information and the settings for the software itself can also be read out or changed in the software. In addition, the program provides help and contact to the SSD and support.
Benchmarks
- very good performance in benchmarks
- very good heat dissipation
- Performance in parts above the manufacturer’s specifications
In order to objectively measure the performance of the Kioxia Exceria Plus Portable SSD, I carried out some benchmark tests to test the read speed, write speed and access time of the SSD. The benchmark tests were performed with the following system:
Operating system | Windows 11 (with current updates) |
Mainboard | ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-A Gaming Wifi D4 |
Memory | 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz |
GPU | MSI 3080 Ventus 3x |
CPU | Intel Core i7 12700 KF |
For the tests, I used the two USB-C ports directly on the mainboard and the supplied connection cables to minimize deviations and losses.
CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4: The SSD achieved a sequential read speed of 1014.20 MB/s and a sequential write speed of 1021.76 MB/s. The random read speed was 211.55 MB/s and the random write speed was 246.27 MB/s.
AS SSD Benchmark 2.0.7316: The SSD achieved a sequential read speed of 968.55 MB/s and a sequential write speed of 937.68 MB/s. The random read speed was 182.27 MB/s and the random write speed was 223.32 MB/s. The access time was 0.068 ms for reading and 0.052 ms for writing.
You can also see the simulated transfer rates from the AS SSD copy benchmark in the attached image.
The benchmark results show that the Kioxia Exceria Plus Portable SSD offers a very high performance, which comes close to the values specified by the manufacturer and even exceeds them in parts. Even in several runs, the values achieved could be confirmed. I personally find the results in my Kioxia Exceria Plus Portable SSD test very remarkable.
In my benchmark tests, the SSD reached a maximum temperature of 46 degrees. On average, the temperature of the SSD was around 40 degrees. In my benchmarks, the aluminum housing became warm, but rather pleasantly so and really very comfortable at the current temperatures. The heat dissipation through the thermal pad works perfectly here.
