iPad no longer charges – that’s the problem

Your iPad no longer charges and you can no longer use the tablet? You’ve already tried many things, but now you just don’t know what to do? We show you the most common reasons for charging problems – and how you can solve them!

Your iPad no longer charges? Common causes and simple solutions

The fact that an iPad no longer charges can have very different causes. This is due to the fact that at least three independent components are involved in the charging process: the charging cable, the charging socket and the battery. Defects or reversible malfunctions can occur in all three components. We list the most common reasons for charging problems below, along with possible solutions.

Deeply discharged battery

In some cases, the iPad actually charges without you noticing. If the battery is deeply discharged, it sometimes takes a few hours before the battery charge is sufficient to start the iPad again. So leave the device on the charging cable for some time – it may then switch on again.

Faulty charging cable

It is possible that the charging cable you are trying to charge your iPad with is defective. In practice, this happens frequently. In particular, cable breaks happen quickly with intensive cable use and can be chalked up to common wear and tear. Repairing the cable is not possible in these cases. Instead, the cable has to be replaced. You can find out if the problem is due to the charging cable by trying to charge your iPad with a different cable. If that succeeds, the cable is the problem – and there’s nothing wrong with your iPad.

Dirty charging port

It is also possible that the cause of the problem is in the charging socket. A whole lot of dust accumulates here over time, which eventually covers the contact points. As a result, the charging process cannot run properly. In this case, it helps to carefully clean the charging port. Toothpicks or bent paper clips are helpful for this. However, you should be careful not to scratch along the edge of the charging port. In this case, there is a risk of damage to the contact points.

Defective charging socket

Your iPad no longer charges and nothing has helped so far? Then a defect in the iPad is to be assumed. This can be located in the charging socket. The contact points, which are important for the charging process, may be worn out. If the problem lies here, the charging socket must be replaced.

Deficient battery

The battery can also be defective. In this case, only a replacement will help as well. You can’t determine whether the charging socket or the battery is defective at home without further tools and in-depth technical knowledge. Therefore, we advise you to visit a repair shop if the charging problems cannot be solved by replacing the cable or cleaning the charging port.

Is your iPad charging slowly? This indicates that the battery is no longer functioning at its full capacity. In this case, you can expect it to stop working adequately in the near future. If you want to avoid your iPad from not charging at all, you should visit a trusted repair shop already now.
