WhatsApp introduced a status function some time ago. Meta, the company behind WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, has thus made a decisive adjustment to successful social media platforms – and broken with the concept of the classic messenger service. Since then, the question has repeatedly arisen as to whether it is possible to take a WhatsApp status screenshot. We explain exactly how to do this – and whether it is visible to others that you have screenshotted their status.

How to take a WhatsApp status screenshot

Taking a screenshot requires hardly any technical know-how. The WhatsApp status screenshot works in exactly the same way as you are used to. On the vast majority of current cell phones, you have to press two buttons at the same time. WhatsApp is not equipped with a screenshot lock, so you don’t have to take any detours here. If you scroll through your WhatsApp status messages and see something that interests you, you can get started right away.

Is my screenshot visible?

Probably the more pressing question: Can the person in question see that you have taken a screenshot of their WhatsApp status? We can reassure you here: No one receives a notification when his or her status is captured. So you can browse through WhatsApp status messages and take screenshots to your heart’s content without worrying that anyone will find out.

However, at least viewing the status messages is not completely without consequences. Anyone who posts a WhatsApp status can see who has viewed it. However, this does not allow any conclusions to be drawn as to whether you have taken a WhatsApp status screenshot.
