8Bitdo Retro Mechanical Keyboard in NES look comes to Germany

Attention retro gaming fans: If you grew up in the 8-bit era of the Nintendo Entertainment System or with the 16-bit SNES and would like to bring the retro charm of these consoles to your own computer, the 8Bitdo Retro Mechanical Keyboard is the perfect solution. It is now also available in Germany.

8Bitdo Retro Mechanical Keyboard launched

Manufacturer 8BitDo is primarily known for its high-quality gamepads, which bring the look of classic controllers from the NES or Sega Megadrive era into the modern age.

Last year, they announced the 8Bitdo Retro Mechanical Keyboard, a mechanical gaming keyboard that is visually inspired by the Nintendo Entertainment System or the Japanese version called Famicon. Yes, even more retro flair than the Akko 9009 5087B Plus (our test), for example.

Following its launch in the USA last year, the 8Bitdo Retro Mechanical Keyboard is now finally available in Germany. And in both the gray-red “N Edition” and the Famicon look “Fami Edition”.

However, there is one catch: the mechanical keyboard is only available in the US ANSI layout (i.e. with a smaller ENTER key and without Ä, Ö or Ü) in QWERTY design.

The features of the 8Bitdo Retro Mechanical Keyboard

If that doesn’t bother you, the 8Bitdo Retro Mechanical Keyboard is a high-quality keyboard. It uses a TKL layout without a numeric keypad and has a NES-style mode and volume switch above the escape and F-key rate, as well as three additional keys.

The keyboard measures 376 mm x 169 mm x 47 mm and weighs 1,050 grams. 8BitDo relies on a high-quality aluminum plate with a hot-swappable PCB. White Kalih Box Switches V2 are used as mechanical switches, which are tactile and clicky to underline the retro look.

The 8Bitdo retro keyboard can be operated either by cable or wirelessly in the 2.4 GHz radio band and via Bluetooth. Under the hood is a 2,000 mAh battery which, according to the manufacturer, should provide a battery life of up to 200 hours.

Another special feature: the retro keyboard also comes with two large buttons that are reminiscent of the A and B buttons on the NES gamepad and can be freely programmed. Up to four sets (i.e. a total of eight buttons) can be connected to one keyboard.

Price and availability

The 8Bitdo Retro Mechanical Keyboard in US ANSI layout is now available from Amazon. The recommended retail price is 99.99 euros. You can choose between the N-Edition and the Fami-Edition.
