Alienware AW3423DW: OLED monitor with 175 Hz presented

With the Alienware AW3423DW, the manufacturer presented an exciting new monitor for gamers at CES 2022. The model relies on a curved OLED panel and therefore offers an extremely high contrast ratio and a very short response time.

Alienware AW3423DW: First 34-inch QD OLED for gamers

With the 34-inch curved QD-OLED gaming monitor Alienware AW3423DW, the manufacturer once again forges ahead and offers a new monitor especially for gamers. Alienware relies on a curved panel, whose curvature of 1,800 mm is not quite as strong as in the competition.

The Alienware AW3423DW offers a resolution of 3,440 × 1,440 pixels (UWQHD) in 21:9 format and comes to a refresh rate of 175 Hz when connected via DisplayPort 1.4. At least 100 Hz are achieved via HDMI 2.0. Thus, we get a pixel density of 110 ppi for a 34-inch screen diagonal.

The monitor relies on an OLED panel, which is especially advantageous for gaming. Especially the extremely low response time of only 0.1 ms (gray to gray) should please even the most ambitious gamers.

In combination with the Quantum Dot layer (hence the name QD-OLED), an excellent and even color reproduction should be achieved. The DCI-P3 color space is supposed to be covered by 99.3%, sRGB by 149%. The DeltaE is specified with <2, so that a correct color reproduction is ensured. The color depth is 10 bits.

According to the manufacturer, the AW3423DW’s average brightness of 250 cd/m² is relatively low. However, a maximum of up to 1,000 cd/m² is reached selectively. That is enough for a DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification. In return, there is a contrast ratio of 1 million to one.

Futuristic design with RGB lighting

Visually, the Alienware AW3423DW relies on a futuristic look typical of the manufacturer, including configurable RGB LED lighting with four light zones – called “AlienFX”.

The manufacturer has also thought about ergonomics. A height adjustment is possible within a range of 110 mm, and the tilt can be adjusted between -5° and 21°. The gaming monitor is operated via a joystick on the bottom right of the case.

Price and Availability

The new Alienware AW3423DW QD OLED monitor will be available in Europe from April 5, 2022. Already from March, the market launch will take place in China and thereupon in the US. However, the manufacturer has not yet revealed a final price.
