Alienware has not released a gaming notebook with an AMD processor since 2007. Now the new m15 Ryzen Edition R5 is launched at the same time as the new Dell G15 Ryzen Edition. With AMD processor and NVIDIA GPU, Alienware wants to meet the hardware requirements.
Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5 – gaming laptop
Dell’s gaming brand has really taken its time. After 14 now, the m15 Lyzeen Edition R5 finally brings out another gaming laptop with an AMD processor from Alienware. It is characterized by a slim design and decent computing power. In order to be optimally equipped for gaming, the m15 offers the fastest display ever built into a 15 inch notebook by the gaming brand. The FHD panel has 360 Hz, covers 100 percent of the sRGB color space, has a maximum brightness of 300 cd/m² and offers G-SYNC. For another choice, there is a Full HD display with 165 Hz, also with 100 percent sRGB color space coverage and a maximum brightness of up to 300 cd/m². And a WQHD display with 240 Hz, G-SYNC and a maximum brightness of up to 400 cd/m². Alienware relies on Advanced Optimus, which turns off the GPU in 2D mode without restarting.
Alienware also relies on powerful components for the processor, so there will be the Ryzen 7 5800H and the Ryzen 9 5900HX to choose from. The two processors only differ in the clock, but not in the number of cores. The GPU will be an NVIDIA GeForce RTX from the 30 series. Either the GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop or the RTX 3070 Laptop will be used here. The 3200 MHz DDR4 memory has been installed in a 15-inch notebook for the first time. This can now also be expanded, with a choice between 8, 16 and 32 GB of RAM. Furthermore, you can also choose between 256 GB and 4 TB of memory. The Cryo-Tech cooling technology has also been reworked to provide an improved airflow compared to the previous models.
Not only the performance has been improved, there have also been visual changes. For example, the m15 is based on the Legend 2.0 design, which is a dark-core design with a dark look. This reduces distractions during gameplay. Another option is a mechanical ultra-low profile keyboard with individual RGB lighting. This was developed with Cherry MX. Depending on the choice in components, the gaming notebook comes in at 2.42 to 2.69 kg in weight.
Dell G15 Ryzen Edition
The new Dell G15 Ryzen Edition also comes with a screen size of 15.6 inches. Features of the G15 are AMD processors up to the AMD Ryzen 5000 series, here there is a choice between Ryzen 5 5600H and Ryzen 7 5800H. Dell also relies on the NVIDIA GeForce 3060 laptop with 115 + 10 watts for the GPU or the GeForce RTX 1650 for gamers. As with the Alienware m15, the G15 is available with 8, 16 or 32 GB 3200 MHz DDR4 memory. With the new “Game Shift” function button, the G15’s cooling performance can be increased instantly during intensive gaming sessions. In contrast to the m15, the G15 offers less storage space, here you can choose between 256 GB and 2 TB. The display also has to make concessions, here you can choose between two Full HD displays with either 120 Hz and 250 cd/m² or with 165 Hz and a maximum brightness of 300 cd/m². Both variants are without G-Sync, but have Low Blue Light Display hardware with TÜV certification. For the battery, there are two options to choose from, either 56 Wh with 3 cells or 86 Wh with 6 cells.
