Two NAS systems with blazing speeds will soon be available from ASUS. They’ve unveiled the Flashtor 6 and Flashtor 12 Pro, two systems that can accommodate up to 12 NVMe SSDs.
ASUS Flashtor 6 and Flashtor 12 Pro in detail
The number of drive bays is already in the name of the two NAS systems, ASUS Flashtor 6 and 12. Both models come with an Intel Celeron N5105 quad-core CPU and provide a convincing computing speed with 4 GB DDR4-2933 RAM.
The special feature, however, lies in the slots, because in the case of the ASUS Flashtor 6, there is room for six NVMe SSDs in the case, and in the case of the ASUS Flashtor 12 Pero, there are even 12. This is especially interesting for those who want to process large amounts of data quickly.
The 12 Pro model even relies on a fast 10 Gigabit Ethernet port, thanks to which data can be read at up to 1,181 MByte/s and written at 1,027 MByte/s. A 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port is used in the Flashtor 6, where sequential read and write speeds of up to 590 Mbyte/s are supposed to be possible.
NVMe SSDs of the size M.2-2280 can be installed. RAID configurations are of course also possible, and the NAS systems are cooled with an 80 mm fan.
SATA expansion and software
Via the AS6004U expansion modules, both ASUS models can also be used with SATA hard drives – here, four 3.5-inch slots are then available each. The ASUS Flashtor 6 and Flashtor 12 Pro offer two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports.
In terms of software, various solutions are used that, for example, allow fast and uncomplicated backups, enable monitoring of the SSDs or let you migrate the data.
In addition, there is ASUS’ in-house media center software Looksgood, which, for example, offers intelligent video management and enables easy streaming via Chromecast and DLNA.
However, both NAS systems also offer an HDMI 2.0b port to play videos and content directly themselves. For music playback, the Roon software is used, here the playback is optionally via digital digital S/PDIF output.

Prices and availability
Both the ASUS Flashtor 6 and Flashtor 12 Pro NAS systems are currently only available in the US, where they are exclusive to Amazon. The Flashtor 6 model has an MSRP of $498.36, while the Flashtor 12 is priced at $862.05. If and when both models will come to Germany is still unclear at this point.
