Babboe: Manufacturer launches recall campaign for its cargo bikes

Babboe has suffered a serious blow in recent weeks. The former cargo bike king was banned from selling its bikes due to safety concerns. Now the recall campaign has begun.

The deep fall of Babboe

It’s hard to imagine Germany’s major cities without them – cargo bikes. The benefits are obvious. Thanks to the large storage compartment, you can not only transport a week’s worth of shopping, but also one or more children. You avoid the usually slow-moving road traffic, usually reach your destination faster than with a car and also protect the environment. As a result, many young families in particular have decided to use a cargo bike as a “second car”. Some even replaced their car completely with a cargo bike. The Babboe models were a real bestseller. However, major safety concerns are currently tarnishing the Dutch manufacturer’s once-stellar image. The sales ban will soon be followed by a recall.

And not only in the Netherlands, but also in Germany. This initially concerns the City series and Mini series from Babboe. Over time, however, further models will follow. The Curve, Big and Dog series in particular will also be included in the recall in the coming weeks. Regardless of whether your Babboe is already affected by the recall or not, there is one rule that applies to you at the moment: leave the bike where it is. However, it must also be emphasized that the problem does not affect all of the manufacturer’s bikes. You can easily check whether your Babboe is one of the models with a safety problem by looking at the frame number.

High risk of accidents

Anyone who nevertheless dares to ride one of the affected cargo bikes should bear the high risk in mind. After all, the sales ban was not imposed for no reason. The bikes covered by the recall have a high risk of the frame breaking while riding. This can have serious consequences, especially at high speeds. It is therefore best to refrain from going for a spin. Especially if you are transporting children or other people in the transport box. We are curious to see how quickly Babboe can carry out its recall campaign. What is certain is that the damage to its image will probably last a long time.
