Bluetti EP500 & EP500 Pro: Kickstarter project takes off in full swing

The start-up Bluetti wants to revolutionize the world of energy storage with its EP500 and EP500 Pro. In this way, the young company is finally saying goodbye to the classic image of a smelly and noisy diesel engine. With its lithium iron phosphate-based energy storage system, Bluetti not only wants to impress with its modern batteries. On top of that, the EP500 and EP500 Pro score points with portability that could make even industry leader Tesla with its Powerwall turn green with envy.

A whopping 5,100 watt hours of battery capacity

The flagship of any energy storage device is, of course, capacity. And this is where Bluetti scores. Up to 5,100 Wh are possible. The two batteries are correspondingly heavy. The EP500 weighs 76 kg and the EP500 Pro 83 kg. While the competition among energy storage units usually relies on stationary operation, Bluetti gives its EP500 and EP500 Pro casters without further ado. This allows the two heavy boxes to be used in any conceivable location.

One of the best-known representatives among the modern options for private energy storage is the Powerwall from electric car maker Tesla. As soon as there is a power outage at home, Tesla’s energy storage system reliably steps in. However, the added value of this storage option looks rather meager. After all, the Powerwall cannot be used variably as a permanently installed storage system. The situation is quite different with the EP500 and EP500 Pro. These can also be used optimally for use on camping vacations thanks to the rollers.

State-of-the-art battery technology

Bluetti wants to convince its prospective customers not only with the portability thanks to rollers. The batteries at the heart of the energy storage unit are also revolutionary. Rather untypically for the market, Bluetti does not use lithium-ion batteries. Instead, the start-up relies on an environmentally friendly alternative. The lithium iron phosphate accumulators used here benefit in many ways. Not only is the environment protected. On top of that, the modern accumulators offer more safety and also save costs.

Unlike Tesla’s Powerwall, Bluetti’s two portable storage units don’t require users to buy solar panels. The startup takes a different approach. So you can buy a matching solar panel kit in addition, which is foldable and also portable. But there are other optional accessories for the two energy storage units. So you can also buy a practical fusion panel in addition.

Price and availability

EP500 and EP500 Pro differ not only in terms of performance, but also in price. Bluetti charges the equivalent of just under 2,682 euros (Early Bird discount) for the basic model. The EP500 Pro, on the other hand, is available for about 2,937 Euros. Bluetti’s revolutionary idea also seems to be well received on Kickstarter. The project has now raised over 2.2 million euros from 665 backers. The start-up has thus more than exceeded its pre-set funding target. Anyone looking for a practical and user-friendly energy storage system should take a look at EP500 and EP500 Pro. The project is still running for 12 days (as of April 1, 2021).
