CES 2022: Lenovo presents sustainable ThinkPad Z series

Lenovo has introduced its new ThinkPad Z. It not only convinces with a lot of performance, which results from the use of Ryzen CPUs, among other things. On top of that, the business notebook is manufactured with sustainable materials.

Sustainability as a new sales argument

For a long time now, you don’t want to convince your customers in the tech industry of your own product with mere top performance. In the meantime, ecological thinking also plays a major role here. At CES 2022, Lenovo is making it clear with its brand new notebook series that sustainability is also important for the popular manufacturer of PC hardware. The devices named ThinkPad Z are to be used primarily by business users. At first glance, it is clear that you can easily show them off on a long-distance trip in an airplane or train. The basis is a metal-based chassis, which comes with noble bronze elements. Fans of the usual ThinkPad designs will hardly recognize the Z-series. After all, the look is very different from the restrained, classic black and angular design.

Although the fancy exterior might not make it seem so, Lenovo uses environmentally friendly materials for its ThinkPad Z first and foremost. The manufacturer states that the aluminum chassis is almost completely made of recycled metal. If you opt for the version with a leather application, you will also get sustainable materials. This is not only vegan, but also made from recycled materials. Not only the notebook itself, but also the accessories are supposed to get the stamp of sustainability. For example, Lenovo says that the included power supply is also mainly made of recycled materials. Even the packaging is made of sugar cane and bamboo, which are harmless materials.

Only processors from AMD

Lenovo seems to completely turn its back on Intel for its ThinkPad Z. After all, you can only opt for CPUs from the Ryzen Pro 6000 series here. These are supposed to feature “Pluton” in particular. This is a security chip that is already used in Microsoft’s Surface notebooks.

The Z series comes in two different sizes – the Z13 and the Z16. While the Z13, as the smaller model, relies on an integrated graphics unit as standard, you can optionally reach for a stronger graphics chip from Radeon in the larger Z16. This is only one option among many. Thus, you can also opt for a high-contrast OLED panel in the 16:10 aspect ratio display.

Price and availability

If you still don’t want to do without USB-A on your notebook, you can’t avoid a dongle with the ThinkPad Z series. After all, both the Z13 and Z16 have USB-C ports exclusively. While the smaller of the two business notebooks only has a 3.5 mm jack in addition to the two USB-C ports, the Z16 has three USB-C ports, said audio out, and an SD card reader. Are you interested in Lenovo’s upcoming sustainable notebooks? You do not have to wait too much longer in this case. The time is supposed to come in June. The brand-new ThinkPad Z series will be available in stores then. Lenovo wants to charge an MSRP of 1,650 Euros for the ThinkPad Z13. The larger ThinkPad Z16 is supposed to start at a price of 2,250 Euros.
