Crucial X9 Pro and X10 Pro: External SSDs for professionals

Crucial has launched two new external SSDs specifically designed for professional “creators”. The X9 Pro and X10 Pro offer up to 4TB of storage in an extremely compact and IP55-rated enclosure.

Compact and lightweight

The dimensions of the two data storage devices are extremely compact at just 65 × 50 × 10 mm. The X9 Pro weighs 38 grams and the X10 Pro weighs 42 grams. This makes them more compact than Samsung’s T7 Portable or SanDisk’s Extreme Pro, although the Corsair EX100U is still marginally smaller and lighter.

Rugged and versatile

The aluminum enclosure of the SSDs is IP55 rated to protect against dust and water jets. The connection is made both on the side of the SSD and on the other end of the cable via the USB-C connector. However, an adapter for USB-A has to be purchased separately. The case also has an eyelet, which can be used to attach the data carrier to a keychain, for example.

Different speeds

The X9 Pro reaches 1,050 MB/s, while the X10 Pro accelerates to 2,100 MB/s. The X9 Pro only uses USB 3.2 Gen 2 at 10 Gbit/s, so a maximum of 1,050 MB/s is possible in both read and write. The X10 Pro, on the other hand, works with USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 at 20 Gbit/s and thus achieves a peak of 2,100 MB/s read and 2,000 MB/s write.

Availability and Pricing

The SSDs are offered in capacities of 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB. Prices for the external drives start at 92 euros for the X9 and at 132 euros for the X10. The top model, the X10 Pro Portable with 4 TB of storage, costs around 365 euros.
