Dell Latitude 9420 comes – elegant Notebook in 14 inches

Dell expands its Latitude 9000 series with a 14-inch model. But that’s not all, the 5000 and 7000 models also get an upgrade.

Elegant and light in 14 inches

Last year, there was already a 15-inch addition to Dell’s 9000 models. Now in the new year there is also a 14 incher from the us manufacturer of computers and storage systems. The Latitude 9420 notebook is less than a centimeter thin and weighs just 1.3 kg. Visually, it is packaged in an elegant metal case. The notebook is available with two hinge and lid options. Either as a classic notebook or as a hybrid device with 360-degree hinges and touchscreen. Thus, it can also easily be used as a tablet. The Latitude 9420’s lid has a 500 cd/m² bright panel that can completely cover the sRGB color space. The whole thing comes across in a 16:10 format and is thus very work-friendly.

The two models again differ in terms of resolution. The classic notebook variant of the Latitude has a matte touchless panel that resolves in 1920 x 1280 pixels. In contrast, the touchscreen variant, which can also be operated with a stylus, displays 2560 x 1600 pixels.

To protect the screen from prying eyes, the notebook has a Windows-Hello-compatible IR camera with a proximity sensor installed in the frame above the display. This automatically locks the screen or puts the notebook into sleep mode when you move away from the screen. The function also works the other way around; if you come back to your notebook, the action is reversed without any required interaction. Some models are supposed to get another electronic bezel in front of the camera so that it is covered when not in use.

The Latitude 9420 transmits via Wi-Fi 6, LTE or the 5G network if a cellular modem has been installed. There is also the option of ordering the 9420 with a 40 or 60 Wh battery. On the processor side, vPro-capable Core-i CPUs of the eleventh generation are used (Tiger Lake). Furthermore, docking via Thunderbolt 4 is also feasible.

Upgrade for 5000 and 7000 model

The Latitude models of the 5000 and 7000 series also get an update from Dell. There is a CPU upgrade for the models. The 5000-series models will get Core-i CPUs without vPro remote maintenance features before the end of January. In contrast, the models of the 7000 series will get the new vPro processors. These will only be available from March this year, so the better models will only be available then. The 15-inch model of the 9000 series will also get the new processor and will then be out in March.

Availability and Price

Due to the new processor, the Dell Latitude 9420 will not be released until March 2021. The price is not yet known.
