Discord becomes available on the PlayStation 5

Discord is now available in a beta version on the PlayStation 5. The beta phase is accessible to a select group of people who were notified via e-mail. In the near future, the voice chat application will be available to all users of Sony’s latest console.

Discord is the most popular voice chat app

Discord is probably the most popular of all voice chat solutions and is used very actively, especially in the gaming sector. So far, the application is available on PC, cell phones and many consoles – but not on the PlayStation 5. With an update, this circumstance will now change. In the beta test, Discord is open to all those who have registered for the beta program at PlayStation. A corresponding invitation email was sent out. It contains a code that grants access to the beta software. If this is downloaded, a system update starts.

Once the update is complete, the DualSense controller of the PlayStation can be connected to Discord. This is possible in the settings under Users and Accounts > Connected Services. Here now appears the previously non-existent menu item Discord.

To complete the link, a QR code issued via the PlayStation must be scanned using the Discord app.

Using Discord on the PlayStation 5

Once unlocked, Discord will also be available on the PlayStation. To move the voice chat to the console, only a few steps are required. Thus, in the mobile app, it is necessary to swipe up to get to the Join on PlayStation option. If the desktop application is used, a new button is available at the bottom left instead. If this is clicked, the voice chat is moved to the PlayStation. All the familiar Discord functions are then available on the console. For example, it is also possible to mute other participants or adjust the volume.

Option soon available for all

Sony and Discord have not provided an exact timetable, but it can be assumed that the voice chat will be available to all users shortly after the beta phase. The collaboration was announced as early as 2021. Discord will thus be usable by a larger group than before – and will in all likelihood be able to consolidate its supremacy in the gaming market.

With the new beta update, numerous other functions will also be added to the PS5.
