Energy transition: Thermondo no longer sells gas heaters

From the point of view of the largest heating installer Thermondo, the last hour has come for gas heating. At least the company has announced that from now on it will rely exclusively on environmentally friendly heating alternatives such as heat pumps. An important step for the energy transition?

The future belongs to the heat pump

If you take a look at Thermondo’s product portfolio, you will quickly notice that something is missing. Namely gas heating systems. The popular heating expert has revised its product range without further ado and has really cut back. According to a report in the Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper, the service provider has discontinued the sale of gas heating systems. The official press release now states that “the last fossil fuel heating system was sold in February 2024”. The company now wants to “concentrate fully on heat pumps, photovoltaics and other technologies for climate-neutral living”.

The company continues to see itself “as an enabler of the energy transition in single-family homes”. Of course, customers will not be left with their costs. Thermondo emphasizes that orders received so far will of course still be processed. Accordingly, installation is still taking place. The same applies to the maintenance of already installed systems. Contracts that have already been concluded will continue to be fulfilled.

A turnaround in the energy transition?

The question now is how the market will react to the fact that Germany’s largest heating manufacturer is turning its back on gas heating. What is certain is that the company is initiating a real turnaround with its almost historic decision. It remains to be seen whether other companies in this sector will take a similar direction. However, a look at the market makes it clear that the trend is definitely towards heat pumps – at least for new buildings. For existing buildings, on the other hand, gas heating is still ahead.
