AVM launches a new update for the FRITZ! products. FRITZ!OS 7.50 is now available for download and comes with over 150 innovations and improvements. These include higher performance in WLAN Mesh and new possibilities in the Smart Home.
FRITZ!OS 7.50 launches with numerous improvements
Anyone using a FRITZ!Box or other FRITZ! products from AVM can look forward to a new update, as the manufacturer has begun rolling out FRITZ!OS 7.50, which should arrive at your home in the coming days. It will start on the FRITZ!Box 7590, and the update will be released gradually for other current FRITZ! products.
And the new update truly has it all: over 150 new features and useful improvements for all of the manufacturer’s products are said to be included. A complete overview of all the new features is available on the website of AVM. We present the most important improvements in detail.
Higher performance in WLAN mesh
Thanks to dynamic Smart Repeating, FRITZ!OS 7.50 improves performance in WLAN Mesh. With a corresponding repeater or a FRITZ!Box as a mesh repeater, higher data throughputs and improved stability in WLAN connections are thus achieved. With the new FRITZ!OS version, the two frequency bands (2.4 and 5 GHz) are used even more dynamically for the optimal connection between FRITZ!Box at the connection and Mesh Repeater.
Simple VPN networking with WireGuard
An exciting new feature of the update marks the support of the WireGuard VPN procedure, which allows secure connections from the Internet to the FRITZ!Box home network to be set up easily and quickly.
With the new WireGuard wizard on the FRITZ!Box, encrypted connections can be set up on smartphones, notebooks or PCs using the WireGuard app via QR code or software. The previous VPN method IPSec has also been updated and now supports IPv4 and IPv6 connections.
FRITZ!Fon can now talk
The FRITZ!Fon has been given a new appointment calendar and now offers a ringtone called “Speech”, with which it informs about callers or stored calendar entries via announcement.
In addition, the phonebook can now be used as a positive list. Callers not included in the phone book can thus be blocked across the board or automatically diverted to an answering machine.
Smart Home with new scenarios and routines
Those who use smart home devices from AVM will benefit from additional functions with the new OS update. Via the so-called scenarios, various actions in the smart home can now be executed simultaneously.
When you come home from work, for example, you can use the “Come home” scenario to set all radiator controllers, switch on all LED lights and sockets and much more at the touch of a button.
The new routines then let you start scenarios and templates automatically with a simple if-then link. So: when I get home, all lights should be started – or similar.
Fair bandwidth distribution
With FRITZ!OS 7.50, the FRITZ!Box on DSL connections can distribute the data packets at home even better and more fairly to all devices in the home and guest network. This means that the same bandwidth is available for surfing as for online games or video conferences in the home office.
The update also optimizes the use of USB storage media and brings many improvements in the area of security, such as additional protection against potential failures of DNS servers on the Internet.
New user interface
FRITZ!OS 7.50 also improves the design of the fritz.box user interface, making it easier to read. Added to this, for example, is a restructured overview page, as well as a new online help including keyword search with helpful tips and instructions.
