Gigaset discontinues smart home division at the end of March

It has been clear for several months that Gigaset is insolvent. However, the full extent of the misery is now becoming clear. It is clear that it is first and foremost the customers who are suffering. For example, the smart home services will be discontinued this week.

Gigaset goes under

Whether outdoor smartphones like the Gigaset GX4 (test), daily-use smartphones like the Gigaset GS3 (test) or smart doorbells like the Gigaset Doorbell One X (test) – Gigaset always made a good to very good impression in our tests. After all, the German company has almost always succeeded in offering solid technology at a fair price.

And with the “Made in Germany” seal of quality to boot. However, the success story has now come to an abrupt end. The manufacturer’s insolvency proceedings began at the end of January. There was probably a small success in the process. A buyer is said to have been found who wants to take over at least part of the company, which has collapsed economically. Gigaset itself announced this in a press release.

Unfortunately, however, the buyer will not take over the entire Gigaset portfolio. The services of the Smart Home and Care divisions will be left out. That means that owners of the smart video doorbell, for example, will no longer be able to access the cloud. If you’re looking for an alternative, it’s worth taking a look at our list of the best video doorbells of 2024.

The cut-off date is March 29, 2024

Unfortunately, the end of the services is coming very soon. The services are to be discontinued as early as March 29. The whole thing is of course particularly annoying for customers. For example, anyone who is on a well-deserved Easter vacation and wants to use the Gigaset app to check the garden and entrance area via cameras and video doorbell will be left out in the cold.

Gigaset is of course also aware of that. So the company’s apology is all the clearer. Now, of course, the question arises as to how you can react as a customer. You should be able to assert any claims against the insolvency administrator. This includes, for example, an ongoing subscription to the cloud service.

Whether you will actually get the money refunded, however, is written in the stars. What is sadly certain, however, is that no devices can be returned. So, for better or worse, you will have to sit on these costs. The example of Gigaset makes it clear how important it is to choose the right provider of smart home solutions. After all, the end of a company always has an impact on the customer.
