Google Maps expands “Immersive View” to over 500 landmarks

Google has added an enhanced feature called Immersive View to its maps app, Google Maps. The feature, which is now available for more than 500 points of interest, offers a 3D view as well as information on visitor traffic and weather.

What is “Immersive View”

“Immersive View” is an extension of the existing 3D animations of selected landmarks in Google Maps. Similar to Apple’s “Flyover“, users can view buildings and landmarks in three-dimensional views virtually from the air. In addition, “Immersive View” offers the option of displaying additional information, such as the expected weather at different times of the day and how crowded it will be at those times. This data is based on actual data processed by Google using AI.

Where is “Immersive View” available?

In Germany, additional information is already available for several cities and landmarks, including the Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag in Berlin, Cologne Cathedral in Cologne, and Marienplatz in Munich. Worldwide, locations in the cities of Amsterdam, Dublin, Florence and Venice have also been added with the latest update.

Whether “Immersive View” is available for a landmark is indicated by a supplementary note in the 3D videos available as a prerequisite for this function in the detail view of the landmarks. The “Immersive View” is available via the iOS version of Google Maps.
