Google Pixel 8a: Prices, specifications and colors of the smartphone

The mid-range smartphones in Google’s Pixel a series are hugely popular. They are compact, not too expensive and equipped with powerful cameras. The Google Pixel 8a is due to be announced on May 14. Initial information on prices, specifications and colors is now coming from retailers.

The Google Pixel 8a should mark an exciting upgrade from a technical perspective. For example, the 6.1-inch OLED display will finally have a refresh rate of 120 Hz, while the maximum brightness should be 1,400 cd/m².

Under the hood is the Tensor G3, which we already know from the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. According to an earlier leak, however, it will be manufactured using the cheaper IPoP process. It also has 8 GB of RAM and either 128 GB or 256 GB of system memory.

Compared to the Pixel 7a, the battery is also expected to increase from 4,300 mAh to 4,500 mAh and can be charged with 27 watts. However, there are probably no changes to the cameras. Accordingly, a 64 MP main camera with Sony IMX787 and a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera would be used.

Pixel 8a in four colors at a higher price

However, the technical improvements of the Google Pixel 8a result in (once again) higher prices. As leaker Yogesh Brar revealed via X, the smartphone will be available from May at prices of 500 – 550 US dollars. A release directly after Google I/O on May 14 is considered likely.

The same is likely to apply here in Germany, as our colleagues at WinFuture were able to find out from dealers. Accordingly, the variant with 128 GB of memory will start at 569.90 euros in Germany, while the model with 256 GB will be priced at around 630 euros. For comparison: The Pixel 7a starts at 499 euros in Germany.

This time, the Pixel 8a will be available in four different colors, all of which we already know from the other models in the Pixel 8 series: In addition to Obsidian (black) and Porcelain (beige/white), the smartphone will be released in Bay (light blue) and Mint (light green).

However, it is unclear whether all four colors will also be available for both storage variants or whether certain colors will only be available for the larger variant, as Google likes to do from time to time.
