Honor Magic4 and Honor Magic4 Pro introduced

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, manufacturer Honor presented its new flagship smartphones Honor Magic4 and Honor Magic4 Pro. They rely on state-of-the-art technology, strong cameras and a fast charging technology with 100 watts. The manufacturer made a strong comeback in Germany with the Honor 50 at the end of 2021, as outlined in our review.

Honor Magic4 and Honor Magic4 Pro in detail

With the two flagship smartphones Honor Magic4 and Honor Magic4 Pro, the manufacturer that once belonged to Huawei has presented two hot irons during MWC 2022. Both devices are equipped with Qualcomm’s latest flagship SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is supported by either 8 GB or 12 GB of working memory, as well as 256 GB or 512 GB of system storage.

Qualcomm’s seventh-generation AI engine and Cortex-X2 CPU architecture enable ultra-fast processing speeds with a high degree of efficiency. Compared to the previous generation, the HONOR Magic4 series increases CPU performance by 20 percent, GPU performance by 30 percent, and AI capabilities by a whopping 300 percent.

The HONOR OS Turbo X engine provides seamless collaboration between hardware and software to optimize power consumption and game flow during gaming. With GPU Turbo X, HONOR launches the industry’s first AI Super Rendering technology for mobile games. It provides increased refresh rate, improves network connectivity while reducing heat generation and latency.

6.81-inch display

For the display, both smartphones rely on a 6.81-inch LTPO quad-curved display with ultra-thin bezels and a resolution of 2,848 x 1,312 pixels. The peak brightness is 1,000 nits. With a display of up to 1.07 billion colors and 100 percent DCI-P3 support, the HONOR Magic4 Pro offers a cinematic color experience.

The Flagship Series display offers a record 1920 Hz PWM, the highest for an LTPO display. This significantly reduces eye strain even in low-light conditions. The Magic4 Pro measures 163.6 mm x 74.7 mm x 9.15 mm (height x width x depth) and weighs around 215 grams. It supports 5G, of course, as well as WiFi standards 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, and Bluetooth 5.2.

Honor Magic4 Pro

The Magic4 series comes with HONOR’s latest Magic UI 6.0 operating system, which is based on Android 12 and includes a range of enhanced, customized features that offer users a personalized, intelligent experience.

100 watt fast charging technology

The Pro model uses a 4,600 mAh battery that fully charges in 30 minutes via cable thanks to 100-watt SuperCharge charging technology. Without a cable, there is 100W Wireless SuperCharge, which charges the smartphone to 50 percent in 15 minutes – presumably the speed is reduced a bit after that. The Magic4, on the other hand, can be charged with a maximum of 66 watts.

The Honor Magic4 Pro is also IP 684 certified and offers effective protection against dust, rain and water. Thus, the smartphone remains tight for 30 minutes in water up to 1.5 meters deep.

The cameras of the Honor Magic4 and Honor Magic4 Pro

When it comes to the camera setup, there are other differences between the Honor Magic4 and Honor Magic4 Pro. Both smartphones rely on a round camera module on the back, which comes with a 50-megapixel main camera with 1/1.56-inch sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 1/2.5-inch sensor. The Magic4 Pro adds a third camera in the form of a 64 MP telephoto camera with a 1/2-inch sensor and 3.5x optical zoom. According to the manufacturer, digital enlargements with a zoom factor of up to 100x are possible. The Honor Magic4, on the other hand, relies on an 8 megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera 8 with 5x optical zoom.

A 12 MP front-facing camera including a 3D-ToF camera is integrated into a pill-shaped punch hole on the front. It supports 3D Face Unlock, shoots videos in 4K resolution and offers shooting modes like portrait, filter, watermark, high resolution, photo on smile, mirror reflection, timer, night shot, gesture control.

To achieve maximum image quality, the multi-camera integrates shots from the entire focal length range with computational photography. Thanks to clever software, the wide-angle camera and ultra-wide-angle camera deliver up to 65 percent greater image sharpness and clarity. For the periscope telephoto camera, image sharpness and clarity are increased by up to 160 percent.

Honor Magic4 Pro Cameras

With the Magic-Log Movie Master and AI Film Effects, the highest cinematic quality recordings are possible, with a maximum of 10-bit videos in 4K at 60 FPS. The Log format is usually reserved for professional movie shooters, but now allows amateurs to produce movies with amazing colors in peak HDR clarity, which they can also edit to feature film-quality tones.

Prices and Availability

The Honor Magic4 and Honor Magic4 Pro will be available in Summer 2022, though only the Pro model will be offered in Germany. The MSRP for the two smartphones is 899.00 euros for the Magic4 and 1,099 euros for the Magic4 Pro. The Pro is offered in the brand-new color cyan as well as in black.
