Huawei Watch Ultimate: Noble smartwatch for adventurers

Huawei officially enters the luxury smartwatch segment. In the Huawei Watch Ultimate, the Chinese tech company combines a robust classic design with state-of-the-art technology.

Huawei Watch Ultimate enters the German market

Smartwatches are becoming increasingly popular. Accordingly, almost every smartphone manufacturer now also offers a matching smart watch. This then acts as a practical counterpart that indicates messages or forwards calls. In view of the increasingly broad product segment, it is not surprising that there is now everything from inexpensive entry-level devices to solid mid-range models and flagship smartwatches.

Huawei is also extremely active in the segment. For example, the tech company already has a bona fide flagship on offer with its May 2022 officially unveiled GT3 Pro. In February 2023 the Chinese even presented the Huawei Watch Buds, a combination of true wireless in-ears and smartwatch. But that’s not all. A few days ago, the company made it official that with the Huawei Watch Ultimate, they want to launch a genuine luxury watch also in Germany.

Robust design and long battery life

In view of the great features, it’s fair to say that the Watch Ultimate will certainly be among the most technically advanced that the smartwatch market has to offer. On the one hand, this is ensured by the high-quality and robust materials that are supposed to enable the device to still work up to 100 meters under water. Huawei relies on an amorphous alloy for the casing, which is based on zirconium, a shiny silver heavy metal. This heavy metal, which looks like steel on the outside, is probably also used in the production of luxury watches and is supposed to ensure resistance. The classic look only reveals that this is a smartwatch and not a classic watch at second glance. Huawei obviously also relies on a robust design for the wristband. The titanium alloy used is supposed to skillfully prevent possible damage.

The AMOLED display measures 1.5 inches and is supposed to score with a brightness of 1,000 cd/m². Huawei goes the classic route in terms of operation. A total of three buttons are supposed to be used for inputs. There is not only an assistant button on the left side of the casing, but also a function key and the classic rotating crown on the right. Another highlight is the battery performance. The smartwatch not only scores with a runtime of up to two weeks. On top of that, it should be able to be recharged extremely quickly. Huawei promises a full charge within one hour via the wireless charging system. After just ten minutes, the battery should already be 25 percent full.

Huawei Watch Ultimate is aimed at adventurers

Even if you don’t see it on the smartwatch at first glance, Huawei wants to have developed the perfect device for adventurers here. This is supported, for example, by the fact that the watch can even be used for technical diving up to 100 meters. It should be able to withstand the corresponding deep-sea pressure for up to 24 hours without any problems. It is therefore not surprising that the manufacturer implements four different diving modes. Huawei also promises reliable monitoring of the wearer. The smartwatch obviously also supports its user after the dive. For example, it calculates no-fly times after successful dives and thus protects you from harmful flights.

But Huawei also promises reliable support outside of the water. A so-called expedition mode can be activated. This is to be used especially for outdoor activities in sparsely populated areas of the earth. Here, the Huawei Watch Ultimate is supposed to offer precise XTwin-frequency five-system GNSS positioning. This promises accurate positioning, which also comes into play in sports use. For example, runners enjoy a pinpoint route that they can access afterwards. Regardless of whether sports or resting – the Watch Ultimate offers comprehensive health management. In addition to ECG and blood oxygen, it probably also monitors the wearer’s pulse and sleep.

Price and Availability

With all the features, it almost gets lost that the Watch Ultimate can of course also be used to simply answer your calls and for quick replies via Messenger. It also offers compatibility with Android and iOS smartphones. As such, it could even be a competitor to the September 2022 unveiled Apple Watch Ultra. Starting April 3, 2023, you can buy the Huawei Watch Ultimate at an MSRP of 749 euros in the Expedition Black color. On the other hand, if you prefer the Voyage Blue color, you’ll have to live with an MSRP of 899 euros. Regardless of which of the two versions you choose, Huawei will throw in a pair of FreeBuds Pro 2 free of charge for orders placed between April 3 and April 23. More information is available on the official product page.
