IFA 2020: The technology fair in Berlin is also cancelled

After Gamescom already fell victim to COVID-19 last week, other major events followed this week. Also the IFA will unfortunately not take place in 2020.

Last week the German government said that major events would be suspended until the end of August. As a result, the Gamescom has already been cancelled in its previous form, and will instead only take place digital. The Land Berlin has now banned major events with more than 5,000 participants until 24 October 2020. This includes IFA 2020 (international consumer electronics exhibition), one of the oldest industrial trade fairs in Germany, which attracts around 250,000 visitors annually.

While the IFA website does not yet provide information on the cancellation, there is information on the website of the co-organizer gfu. The organizers are in discussion with messe Berlin in order to initiate all necessary steps and finalize an alternative concept for IFA 2020 that is currently being developed. Further information will be presented shortly.

The new framework conditions naturally do not come as a complete surprise. However, they now provide clarity and enable us, together with our partner Messe Berlin and well-known exhibitors, to make concrete plans and preparations.Hans-Joachim Kamp, Supervisory Chairman of gfu Consumer und Home Electronics GmbH

In the last few years we have always been happy to go there, clearly preferring it to Gamescom. We therefore hope that IFA 2021 will continue as usual.
