Install Windows 11 on Raspberry Pi: With Wor-Flasher

With the help of a free script called Wor-Flasher, it is possible to install the new Windows 11 operating system quickly and easily on a Raspberry Pi. With this, Windows images can be downloaded directly, which automatically runs the lengthy installation process.

Wor-Flasher supports Windows 10 and Windows 11

The corresponding Wor-Flasher script has been made available by developer Botspot on Github. It allows flashing an installable image of Windows 10 or Windows 11 in the ARM version to a micro SD card. An appropriately formatted memory card can then be inserted directly into the Raspberry Pi hobbyist PC, which can then be used to trigger the installation of the operating system.

The practical tool obtains the necessary files via UUP dump directly from the official Microsoft servers and is therefore 100 percent legal according to the developer. Provided that the users have a suitable license of Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Therefore, according to Botspot, it is 100 percent legal that it installs an unactivated trial version of the OS. Users should bring a suitable license themselves, which is usually only available to OEMs.

Wor-Flasher does so using Windows on Raspberry (WoR), a community project that prepares Windows versions for the Raspberry Pi. However, Wor-Flasher aims to automate the entire installation process at the same time, making setup much easier.

Only on Debian Linux

.
However, the tool can only run on Debian-based Linux distributions. Developer Botspot was able to successfully test it on a 32-bit ARM Linux Raspberry Pi OS.

However, anyone interested should note that Windows 11, which will officially launch on October 05, requires significantly more memory. Therefore, the installation actually only makes sense on the current model of the Raspberry Pi 4 with at least 4 GB RAM. The magazine ArsTechnica reports that even then the installation should be relatively jerky due to the speed of the SD card. But that could still change, of course.
