New business notebook from Lenovo. With the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 1, the manufacturer raises its workstation to a new level and now equips the 16-incher with powerful Intel HX CPUs and current Nvidia GPUs up to the RTX A5500.

Lenovo ThinkPad P16 unveiled

With the 2022 refresh of its workstation under the name Lenovo ThinkPad P16, the manufacturer launches a high-performance notebook. In contrast to the predecessor models from 2020 in the form of the P15 and P17, there is only one variant this time, which comes with a 16-inch display in the popular 16:10 format.

However, the P16 is rich in variants, because you can choose between four display options: For example, there is the WQUXGA (UHD+) (3840×2400) OLED touchscreen with 400 nits brightness, 100% DCI-P3, Low Blue Light, HDR500 True Black, Dolby Vision HDR and X-Rite FCC or, in the same resolution, as a classic IPS panel without touch, but with a brightness of 600 nits instead.

There is also an option with WQXGA (QHD+) resolution (2560 x 1600), which is available as a 400 nits bright IPS panel with 100% sRGB color space coverage. Or as a WUXGA (FHD+) display (1920 x 1200 pixels) with 300 nits.

Powerful performance in a compact form

The rest of the Lenovo ThinkPad P16’s features are also impressive. Lenovo offers the notebook with Intel Core processors of the 12th generation from the HX series as i5, i7 and i9. Thus, a maximum of 16 cores with a clock rate of 5.00 GHz is offered.

Besides the integrated Intel UHD graphics, an Nvidia RTX A550 with 16 GB VRAM is used as the graphics solution in the top features. Matching this is up to 128 GB DDR5 RAM with a clock rate of 4800 MHz including optional ECC, which can be additionally upgraded in four slots. For storage, space is provided for a maximum of two PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs, whereby the P16 can be equipped with a maximum of 8 terabytes.

So, more than enough space for potent hardware, which finds room in the 364 mm x 266 mm x 30.23 mm (width x depth x height) and 2.95 kg heavy case. Of course, the system also wants to be cooled effectively. Here, the ThinkPad P16 relies on additional Vapor-Chamber cooling including ventilation slots between the keys.

LTE is optional on the P16 via eSIM

Lenvo estimates the battery capacity at 94 watt hours. The Lenovo ThinkPad P16 also communicates wirelessly via Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 vPro. NFC is also offered, and even 4G LTE CAT16 is optional thanks to the built-in eSIM.

The P16 has a Full HD webcam including privacy shutter along with an additional IR camera with the same specifications, which enables logging in via Windows Hello. In terms of ports, there are two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, two USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 4), one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, one HDMI 2.1, a combined 3.5 mm audio port and a Smart Card Reader. The RJ-45 LAN port of the predecessor models, however, has unfortunately been reduced away.

Price and availability

The Lenovo ThinkPad P16 is supposed to find its way into stores from August 2022. It will start at an MSRP of 1,979 Euros. More details are available on the manufacturer’s official product website.
