Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable expands ThinkPad range

The new Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable is a tablet and notebook in one and wants to compete with Microsoft’s Surface Pro 7. With Intel Tiger Lake vPro processors and up to 16 GB of RAM, the prospects are good.

Standard with keyboard

Like its competitor, the Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable has a keyboard that can be magnetically attached to the tablet, which, unlike the Surface, is included right away and does not have to be ordered or paid for separately. The notebook tablet weighs about 1.1 kg with the keyboard, which is backlit. It has a TrackPoint, a fingerprint sensor and a touchpad. If you omit the keyboard, the ThinkPad comes to 283.3 × 203.5 × 8.8 mm (W × D × H) and a weight of 760 grams. With the keyboard, the height of the X12 Detachable is 14.5 mm. If the user wants to operate his ThinkPad X12 Detachable with a pen, Lenovo optionally offers the Digital Pen or the Precision Pen for an operation. The pen can then be easily attached to the keyboard. The ThinkPad’s display is a 12.3-inch touch screen in 3:2 format. The panel has an FHD+ resolution with 1,920 x 1,280 pixels and achieves a brightness of 400 cd/m². The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 ensures sufficient protection.

Performance through Intel’s Tiger Lake

Intel’s Tiger Lake processor ensures a good performance in the Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable. However, the manufacturer does not use the normal portfolio, but the newly introduced vPro processors. Lenovo has opted for the 15 Watt TDP-up variant for the X12 Detachable. Processors up to Core i7 with four cores and a maximum of 4.3 GHz are supposed to be used. The ThinkPad’s working memory can be configured with up to 16 GB LPDDR4X RAM. With up to a 1 TB PCIe-SSD, there should also be enough storage space. The battery with 42 Wh provides up to 10 hours of runtime for the X12. The ThinkPad X12 Detachable has a Thunderbolt 4 port on the top left, which allows connecting Lenovo’s new Thunderbolt 4 docks. There’s also a USB 3.2 Type-C port, a nano-SIM slot for LTE connectivity, and a 3.5mm jack for microphones or headphones. In addition, Lenovo’s ThinkPad X12 Detachable also features Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and data can also be transferred via NFC.

Availability and price

The Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable should be available from mid-March 2021 at a price starting at 999 Euros.
