Due to a technical error at parent company Meta, millions of Instagram accounts were apparently blocked by mistake.

Millions of Instagram users can no longer use or access their accounts. Some received messages about the account being blocked, while others did not. This is apparently a technical error at umbrella company Meta.

Since October 31, 2022, logging into the account is partially no longer possible. Here the reference to a blocking takes place and that, although the persons concerned are not aware of any guilt.

“We are aware that some of you are having problems accessing your Instagram account. We’re looking into the issue and apologize for the inconvenience,” shared via Twitter.

According to TheVerge, several million accounts are said to be affected, but an exact number could not be specified. Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo is said to have lost almost three million followers due to the technical error at Meta. In the meantime, however, the problem is said to have been largely rectified.

Reason for bug unknown

Just a few days ago, a global outage occurred on Instagram and Facebook, which, according to a company spokeswoman, was related to an adjustment within the configuration of both social networks.

What exactly the technical error at Meta consisted of, which had led to the blocking of several million accounts, is also unknown. Things are not going so well for Instagram anyway. Due to a violation of data protection law the company has to pay 405 million euros as a fine.
