Monetization: YouTube relaxes swearing guidelines

Anyone who wants to earn money with YouTube must adhere to the monetization guidelines. Among other things, these stipulate “good behavior” – at least to a certain extent. This includes, among other things, the choice of words. For example, a content creator was previously prohibited from swearing at the beginning of a video. The popular video portal has now relaxed these rules. Consequently, money can now be earned again with loose mouth.

Monetization also possible with swearing

YouTubers who tend to loose mouth now no longer have to fear that they can no longer release their videos for monetization. This is ensured by a revision of the corresponding guideline of the video portal. The Google subsidiary had only recently made the policy a bit stricter. This particularly affected the beginning of YouTube videos. Anyone who used improper language here had to fear that they would not be able to earn any money at all with the video. Particularly strict was the fact that YouTube also enforced its rules retroactively. This means that even older videos were threatened with a block on monetization.

On the part of the more or less creative minds that regularly supply the video portal with fresh content, this did not go down well at all. Since TikTok made YouTube worry about the departure of one or the other content creator, the operators of the portal now acted and took back the revision of the policy. In a short video, an employee pointed out that there had been a lot of negative feedback from content creators. In particular, the retroactive blocking of already monetized videos caused an outcry in the community.

Advertising partners of YouTube as the cause

Why the video portal suddenly became so strict can be answered quickly and easily. For example, it was mainly the advertising partners who advocate “clean language” when their products are advertised. Since experience shows that the advertising is also played before the videos, it is certainly also the temporal context that is relevant here. However, YouTube is now being reasonable and clarifies that it has been too strict with its users. One would like to actually still apply special severity only with the word “Fuck”.

This should not fall too often in the video, nor within the first seven seconds. If this is nevertheless the case, the monetization shall be at least limited. The same shall apply if the thumbnail or the video title contains a swear word. Taking the new policy into account, the company now also wants to re-evaluate videos that have already been demonetized. If it turns out that this is wrongly the case, they will be released to earn money again.
