Motorola is starting the 2024 model year and has unveiled two new mid-range smartphones that combine good features with a comparatively low price. The moto g power 5G 2024 comes with MediaTek Dimensity 7020, while the moto g 5G 2024 offers powerful features for around 200 US dollars.

Motorola is launching an attack on the mid-range smartphone market, which recently saw a lot of movement with the Nothing Phone 2a and the Samsung Galaxy A35 and A55. The new moto g power 5G 2024 is based on a MediaTek Dimensity 7020 processor, which has eight processing cores with clock speeds of up to 2.2 GHz and is manufactured using the 6 nm process.
Motorola provides it with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of system memory, whereby the RAM can borrow an additional 8 GB from the system memory thanks to Motorola RAM Boost. The latter can in turn be expanded by up to 1 terabyte using a microSD card.
The smartphone is equipped with a 6.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 hertz. The battery of the moto g power 5G 2024 has a capacity of 5,000 mAh and is charged via cable with 30 watts and wirelessly with 15 watts.
In terms of cameras, Motorola combines a 50-megapixel main camera (f/1.8) with an ultra-wide-angle lens with a resolution of 8 megapixels. So this time there are finally two real cameras. The selfie lens has a resolution of 16 megapixels and offers an aperture of f/2.4.
The 201 gram moto g power 5G 2024 also offers support for Dolby Atmos, a 3.5 mm jack connection for headphones and comes with Android 14 as standard.

Below this, Motorola is positioning the moto g 5G 2024, which is equipped with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chip from Qualcomm. This is also manufactured using the 6 nm process and relies on eight computing cores with a peak clock speed of 2.0 GHz. It also has 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of system memory, which can also be expanded using a microSD card.
The successor to the Moto G 5G (2nd Gen) also has a larger display. It offers a screen diagonal of 6.6 inches and achieves a frame rate of 120 Hz. However, the resolution is quite low at 1,612 x 720 pixels.
It also has a 5,000 mAh battery, which can be charged with 18 watts via USB-C. Unfortunately, the cheaper model does not support wireless charging.
Otherwise, the moto g 5G 2024 comes with Android14 and combines the same 50 MP rear camera with a 2 MP macro sensor and an 8 megapixel selfie camera.
Prices and availability
Motorla has so far only announced both new smartphones for the US market, where they will be launched on March 21 and 22, 2024 respectively. It is not yet clear when the smartphones will make it to Europe.
The moto g power 5G 2024 has an RRP of 299.99 US dollars, while the moto g 5G 2024 will be significantly cheaper with a price of 199.99 US dollars.
