Samsung Galaxy A55 5G and Galaxy A35 5G presented

With the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G and Galaxy A35 5G, the Koreans have just unveiled two new mid-range smartphones. These rely on metal instead of plastic, a faster chip and an attractive price.

The Samsung Galaxy A55 5G in detail

Samsung wants to set new trends in the mid-range smartphone segment. After all, there has recently been strong competition here, for example in the form of the new Nothing Phone 2a. Of course, the company wants to counter this and score points above all in terms of workmanship and performance.

The new Samsung Galaxy A55 5G is the successor to the successful A54, which was launched almost exactly a year ago. There are new features in the display area, for example, which is now larger at 6.6 inches. In terms of technology, however, everything remains the same. The A55 also relies on a Super AMOLED display with 120 Hz and a full HD resolution.

The built-in processor is also new in the form of the modern Exynos 1480 SoC, which promises higher clock rates and should also work much more efficiently thanks to the 4 nm design. Compared to its predecessor in the A54, up to 15 percent more CPU and 32 percent more GPU performance should be achieved here. The Samsung Galaxy A55 5G is available with 8 GB or 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM, as well as 128 GB or 256 GB system memory, which can be expanded.

There are no new camera specifications, with a 50 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultra wide-angle lens and a 5 MP macro camera, as well as a 32 MP selfie camera on the front. However, thanks to the new chip including AI Image Signal Processing (ISP), these should now enable better night shots.

In addition, the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G has significantly improved in terms of processing. Samsung has equipped the mid-range smartphone with an aluminum frame and a glass back, which makes the device more robust, but also results in a weight of 213 grams.

The battery of the approximately 8.2 mm thin smartphone measures 5,000 mAh and is charged exclusively via cable at a maximum speed of 25 watts.

Samsung Galaxy A35 5G launches at a lower price

Below this, the manufacturer has positioned the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G, which is the successor to the A34. Here, the differences to its predecessor are already clearer. The A35 also uses the same 6.6-inch display as the new A55 5G.

In terms of the chip, the Exynos 1380 is used here, which was reserved for the A54 last year. Samsung provides it with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of system memory.

The chip adds Wi-Fi 6 to the A35 5G and also comes with eSIM support, both of which the A34 lacked last year. At the same time, performance is said to have increased by around 15 percent.

There is news to report about the cameras. Samsung combines a 50 megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) with an 8 MP ultra wide-angle camera and the 5 MP macro sensor from the A55. The selfie camera at the front has a resolution of 12 megapixels and is likely to be the same as last year.

There is also a 5,000 mAh battery here, which is charged with 25 watts. However, the aluminum frame has to be dispensed with here, as once again a plastic chassis is used. However, there is also a glass back.

Prices and availability

The new Samsung Galaxy A35 5G goes on sale today. It starts with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB system memory at an RRP of 379.00 euros in the four bright colors Awesome Iceblue, Lilac, Lemon and Navy.

Top: If you buy before April 17, you can upgrade to 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage for free. A Clear Case and a Screen Protector are also available free of charge until April 1. There is also a 5 percent discount on both devices via Samsung’s Shop and Members app.

The Samsung Galaxy A55, on the other hand, starts in the same four colors with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB flash memory for 479.00 euros. Here too, the manufacturer is offering a free memory upgrade to 256 GB system memory until April 17. Both devices are therefore 10 euros cheaper than their direct predecessors.
