Motorola Edge 30: Price-performance racer comes for 450 euros

The manufacturer provides the current flagship Edge 30 Pro with the Motorola Edge 30, an affordable mid-range smartphone with top equipment. For around 450 Euros, you can expect a 144 Hz fast AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 778G+ and a 50-megapixel dual camera.

With the Pro model, Motorola has an absolute flagship smartphone on offer, with which it finally wants to break into the smartphone leaderboards again. However, the new Motorola Edge 30, which is in the mid-range, does not have to hide at all.

The new model is available in three colors (Meteor Grey, Aurora Green and Supermoon Silver). It measures 159.38 x 74.236 x 6.79 mm (height x width x depth) and weighs only 155 grams. It is protected against water according to the IP52 standard and is equipped with Gorilla Glass 3.

A fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ 5G SoC is used as the processor. Its eight cores are made up of four powerful ARM Cortex-A78 processing cores with four frugal Cortex-A55 cores. It is supported by 8 GB of working memory and 128 GB of system storage. Android 12 is already preinstalled.

This is joined by a fast, 6.5-inch, AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 144 Hz, HDR10+ certification and a screen-to-body ration of 91.4 percent. The display resolves in Full HD+ (2,400 x 1080 pixels) and is in a 20:9 format. There is also 100 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.

4,020 mAh powerful battery, 50 MP dual camera

The battery of the Motorola Edge 30 has a capacity of 4,020 milliampere hours. According to the manufacturer, this should result in a battery runtime of up to 32.7 hours. Charging is exclusively via USB Type-C with a speed of 33 watts.

Thanks to the “Ready For” function, the smartphone can also be connected wirelessly to external devices like a TV or monitor to enjoy apps, video calls or games via a larger display.

Besides 5G, the Edge 30 also supports WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax including WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. NFC and a dual-SIM card slot are also available. The camera setup is also exciting. A 32-megapixel front-facing camera is used for selfies, and two lenses including a 2 MP depth sensor are used on the rear:

  • 50 MP main camera (pixel size 1.0 µm, f/1.8 aperture, OIS)
  • 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera (118-degree field of view, f/1.5 aperture, macro mode included)
  • 2 MP depth camera (f/2.4 aperture)

Also offered are many camera modes and filters. Among them a dual-shot, which records videos of the front and rear camera at the same time, a special Night Vision mode or color spot modes, in which individual colors can be highlighted while the rest of the image remains black and white.

Price and Availability

The Motorola Edge 30 is currently available exclusively from the manufacturer’s home page. The MSRP is 449.99 euros. Currently, the VerveBuds 800 in-ear headphones are also free with purchase.
