Motorola Edge 50 Ultra: flagship smartphone with powerful features

Alongside the Edge 50 Pro, Motorola has now also unveiled its flagship smartphone. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is the successor to the Edge 40 Pro and offers top features for less than 1,000 euros.

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra breaks new ground visually. The smartphone is available in three color variants. Peach Fuzz is already familiar from other devices, Forest Grey is the classic dark grey/black model, both variants come with a faux leather back, like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, for example.

Nordic Wood, on the other hand, has a beige-greenish back made of real wood, which creates a unique look and feel. IP68 certification makes the device, which weighs 198 grams and measures 161.09 mm x 72.38 mm x 8.59 mm, water-resistant.

It is powered by the recently unveiled Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip from Qualcomm, which should make it faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but slightly behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship SoC. The chip is supported by 12 GB or 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB or 1 terabyte of UFS 4.0 system memory.

The pOLED display measures 6.7 inches and has a resolution of 2,712 x 1,220 pixels in a 20:9 aspect ratio. It offers a refresh rate of 144 Hz and is up to 2,500 nits bright. HDR 10 is also on board, as is high color fidelity thanks to Pantone validation.

Wi-Fi 7 and UWB, two stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and NFC are also on offer. Android 14 is used as the operating system, which is offered almost in its purest form thanks to Hello UX. The battery has a capacity of 4,500 mAh and can be charged with up to 125 watts. The smartphone should be able to last a day in just four minutes of charging.

Powerful camera setup

In terms of cameras, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra has three lenses on the back. The main camera comes with a 1.13-inch sensor and an aperture of f/1.6 and has a resolution of 50 megapixels, while the ultra wide-angle camera also has a resolution of 50 MP, a field of view of 122°, an aperture of f/2.0 and a macro mode.

The telephoto camera, on the other hand, has 64 megapixels with an aperture of f/2.4 and offers 3x optical zoom including autofocus and optical image stabilization, while the selfie camera also has a resolution of 50 megapixels.

The colors are Pantone-validated and should be displayed accurately. There are also AI functions such as autofocus and stabilization.

Price and availability

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is set to launch shortly at a price starting at €999.99 for the version with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB system memory. However, the manufacturer and the official website have not yet provided a specific date.

This makes it 100 euros more expensive than its predecessor and 300 euros more expensive than the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, which will launch with less RAM, slightly weaker cameras and Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.
