MWC 2024: Oppo announces “innovative products”

Oppo once celebrated great success with its smartphones in our climes too. But then things suddenly went quiet for the manufacturer, which was able to score points above all with a terrific price-performance ratio. Now the Chinese company has used the big stage of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) to finally show signs of life again.

Oppo wants to take off again

Oppo was hit like a bombshell in the summer of 2022. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer and its subsidiary OnePlus were unceremoniously banned from selling in Germany. The reason behind this was the infringement of Nokia’s patent rights. However, an agreement has now been reached with Nokia and the hatchet has been buried. Now that the disputes over patent rights have been settled, Oppo wants to get off to a completely new start. The company is once again targeting the promising European market, including Germany. In contrast to OnePlus, Oppo’s reaction to the ended patent dispute with Nokia was initially rather muted.

This is quite surprising, as Oppo is the parent company of OnePlus. However, while OnePlus immediately turned the sales crank again after the end of the sales ban and stocked the online store with new products, Oppo didn’t really do much. OnePlus also went on the offensive more than its parent company at MWC 2024 with its OnePlus Watch 2. However, there was an official statement from the taciturn manufacturer. Between the lines of the announcement, it is clear to see that the manufacturer’s devices will soon be available in our region again.

Focus on AI

For many years, smartphone manufacturers outdid each other with ever better displays, cameras and graphics chips. But it seems that hardware alone will no longer play the decisive role in 2024. As the brand new Samsung Galaxy S24 with the AI features of Galaxy AI underlines, the topic of artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly important. The new features will soon also be available on older devices from the tech company. And we should also be able to see exciting AI features in Oppo’s upcoming products. And this is already the case for devices that will be launched in 2024. We in Europe should also be able to enjoy these features. After all, Oppo said at MWC 2024 that it wanted to bring “innovative Oppo products” to Europe.
