MWC 2024: Telekom plans smartphone with AI basis

When Samsung presented its latest smartphone generation in the form of the Galaxy S24 family in mid-January, the focus was already on artificial intelligence in the form of Galaxy AI. Telekom also wants to focus on AI at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). The German provider is likely to present a smartphone concept that completely dispenses with apps and is based exclusively on AI.

Is Telekom presenting the smartphone of the future?

We can once again look forward to exciting technology highlights at MWC 2024 in Barcelona this year. Xiaomi, for example, will be there. The Chinese tech company not only wants to present the Xiaomi 14, but most likely also an electric car for the European market. But German companies are not sleeping either. Deutsche Telekom, of all companies, is apparently planning to present a really exciting smartphone concept. The device is supposed to work entirely without apps. Instead, processes are to be controlled entirely by an AI. The telecommunications group has enlisted the support of AI expert Brain.ai. They have already developed the appropriate user interface with Natural AI. If you take a look at the first image, it appears that Deutsche Telekom does not want to dominate the traditional smartphone market here.

Rather, the device appears to be a completely new category of smartphone. The company may be targeting real smartphone purists who only use their device as a source of information and perhaps also want to control smart home applications at home. Telekom itself sees the AI smartphone as a personal assistant. You can already see what Natural AI is supposed to make possible. For example, when buying concert tickets, you should no longer have to open the browser or the appropriate app and complete the purchase process step by step yourself. Instead, the smartphone only needs to know which concert it is and when it is due to take place. The device then takes care of opening the appropriate applications independently and completes the booking process.

Weak hardware, strong cloud

If you take a look at the technical features of the smartphone, you might be puzzled. After all, it is questionable how the device with its Mediatek Dimensity 700 is able to cope with such challenges. However, Deutsche Telekom does not want to rely on the hardware, but on the power of the cloud. The situation will be different with another smartphone that Telekom apparently has in the pipeline. Thanks to the modern Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 from Qualcomm, this should also make an AI application possible on the device itself. The plans sound really exciting. We may find out when we can expect to see the smartphones between February 26 and 29, 2024, when MWC 2024 takes place in Barcelona.
