Samsung Galaxy S23 comes worldwide with Qualcomm Snapdragon chip

The Samsung Galaxy S23 finally does not have any disadvantage in terms of performance for the release in Europe. After there were rumors about a global delivery with Snapdragon SoC for the S22 series, the in-house Exynos chip was used in the end. However, it will be different for the Samsung Galaxy S23 this time, as an analyst from Qualcomm has confirmed.

Samsung Galaxy S23 comes with Snapdragon SoC

For years, it has been rumored that Samsung will rely on a Qualcom Snapdragon chip for its Galaxy S smartphones globally. But for years, disillusionment has followed for us in Europe. Sure, the current Exynos 2200 is not bad, but it cannot keep up with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in terms of performance.

However, that is now over for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S23. Rumors that Samsung will use the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the next flagship generation have been around for a while.

Samsung Exynos

This is now confirmed by an investor call from Qualcomm, which you can read as a transcript on fool.com, for example. From it, it appears that Qualcomm has not only extended its patent deal with Samsung until 2030, but will also expand the collaboration.

In it, Qualcomm CEO Christiano Amon says, among other things: “Yes. You should look at this as Snapdragon is going to fuel their Galaxy product line, their Galaxy flagship products. And what I can say at this point is, we were already at 75% on the Galaxy S22 before this deal. We’ll be at an even higher percentage with the Galaxy S23 and beyond.”

Further, Amon says that the deal is stretching out over several years and that he can currently at least say that “we will be firing their devices globally”, meaning in the Galaxy S23 and beyond presumably in a Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S25.

Snapdragon also in other devices

Furthermore, Amon reveals that the upcoming Snapdragon SoC, i.e. the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, will not only be used in the Samsung Galaxy S23, but also in many other devices.

“The second part of this multi-year deal is the ability to connect growth to other devices. It goes beyond Galaxy smartphones to include Galaxy Books, Windows PCs, Galaxy tablets and future extended reality devices and more.”

This also means that Samsung’s collaboration with AMD is likely to come to an abrupt end, as Qualcomm confirms that Snapdragon chips are being used in more and more devices from the Korean manufacturer.

Meanwhile, the current Samsung Galaxy S22 comes in the new color “Bora Purple” for now, while the new foldable smartphones Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 will be unveiled first on August 10. The announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S23 will probably have to wait until January 2023.
