With the Galaxy Book Flex2 5G, Samsung has introduced an elegant notebook that not only wants to score with fast 5G, but also with an extremely bright display. The convertible can be easily transformed from a notebook into a tablet via 360-degree hinges. The combination of S-Pen and touchscreen should then provide a superior workflow.
Not at all in the Galaxy S21’s shadow
Samsung has not only unveiled its latest flagship smartphones Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra in recent days (we reported). On top of that, the South Koreans presented an extremely exciting notebook. The Galaxy Book Flex2 5G shines especially with its support for 5G in the sub-6GHz network. It is a convertible that can be transformed from a notebook into a tablet in no time with the help of practical hinges. Thanks to the support of the S Pen, which is known from the Galaxy Note among others, you can comfortably write or draw on the display.
Powerful innards
Samsung does not compromise on the processor. Thus, the manufacturer optionally installs different processors here. While the basic version is equipped with the Intel Tiger Lake-U, the top model comes with a powerful Intel Core i7-1165G7, which has four cores on board. The processor is supported by 16 GB of RAM. The installed PCIe-SSD, which offers either 256 GB or 512 GB, is supposed to provide sufficient storage space. It remains to be seen how much of this will be left in the end. After all, Windows 10 Home is already preinstalled.
The display also sounds promising. Here, Samsung relies on an in-house QLED display that has a screen diagonal of 13.3 inches. While the resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (Full HD) is now standard, the brightness is anything but. The screen is supposed to bring it to a proud maximum brightness of up to 600 cd/m². Not many notebooks from the competition achieve such a high value.
A camera is also on board
It is already clear at first glance that Samsung is producing a very elegant notebook or convertible here. The entire case of the premium class device is made of high-quality aluminum. Accordingly, it weighs just 1.3 kg. Samsung equips the Galaxy Book Flex2 5G with a 70 watt-hour battery to withstand long university, school or work days. This is supposed to provide runtimes of up to 20 hours. When the battery is empty, it can easily be recharged via the modern USB-C port. Surprisingly, the articulated notebook comes with more than just a camera. Besides the standard 720p webcam, the Galaxy Book also has a much more powerful 13 MP camera. This is located above the keyboard and enables quick snapshots when using the device in tablet mode.
Samsung offers enough choice when it comes to connections. Thus, a Thunderbolt 4 port (incl. USB 4 + USB Type C), an HDMI port, a USB-A port (3.2 Gen 1), an audio in/out, and a MicroSD card reader are available to the user.
Price and Availability
We don’t have to wait much longer. Samsung already wants to start shipping the Galaxy Book Flex2 5G on January 28. Those who opt for the cheapest version will get 16 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD as well as the Intel Tiger Lake-U for an MSRP of 1,750 Euros. A storage upgrade to 512 GB costs 100 Euros extra. Those who want a stronger processor with the Intel Core i7-1165G7 will pay another 100 Euros more.
