SanDisk Professional Pro-Blade: Modular SSD system including fast memory card

Under its SanDisk brand, Western Digital has introduced an exciting modular SSD system that is primarily aimed at photo and video professionals. The SanDisk Professional Pro-Blade SSD mag is also complemented by what the manufacturer claims is the fastest UHS-I SD card in the world.

SanDisk Professional Pro-Blade: Modular SSD removable drive

The new Pro-Blade range from SanDisk Professional was introduced by the manufacturer as a “modular SSD ecosystem” that is designed to grow with requirements and circumstances. The core of the system is the SanDisk Professional Pro-Blade SSD-Mag, which – as the name suggests – is visually based on the magazine of a handgun.

It is an ultra-portable and modular NVMe SSD magazine that is made of aluminum and has storage capacities of 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB. The SSD connects via USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, which allows the SSD to be used directly on still and video cameras.

The mag is supposed to achieve read and write speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s. This is made possible by the SN740-series NVMe SSD installed inside. In addition, the magazines, up to four in number, can be used in the stationary Pro-Blade Station, which boosts speeds up to 3,000 MB/s thanks to Thunderbolt 3.

Adding to that is the rugged Pro-Blade transport box, thanks to which the SSDs can be safely taken anywhere. It is supposed to be able to withstand falls from up to three meters without any problems and is shock resistant up to 1,800 kg. The transport system can be equipped with any existing SanDisk Professional Pro-Blade Mags or ordered directly with a 1 TB, 2 TB or 4 TB magazine.

SanDisk Extreme Pro: Fastest UHS-I Memory Cards in the World

Under the SanDisk Extreme Pro range, the manufacturer is also releasing what it says are the “fastest UHS-I memory cards in the world” in June 2022. They come in microSD and SD format and are supposed to be able to achieve transfer rates of up to 200 MB per second and that, although UHS-I is only designed for 104 MB/s.

This is made possible by the proprietary QuickFlow technology, which requires compatible devices, though. Current memory solutions with UHS-I connections currently reach a maximum of 180 MB/s when reading, so SanDisk actually has more to offer here. Details on the prices, however, the manufacturer did not mention yet.

Prices and availability

The SanDisk Professional Pro-Blade Mag will launch in June 2022 starting at an MSRP of 210.99 euros for the 1 TB model. The additional capacities come in at 347.99 euros (2 TB) and 690.99 euros (4 TB).

The bare Pro Blade Transport is also available from June 2022 starting at 84.99 euros. Equipped with a mag, it starts at 279.99 (1 TB). 2 TB cost 416.99 euros, 4 TB are at 759.99 euros. The Pro Blade Station, on the other hand, is only supposed to follow at the end of 2022, and the manufacturer doesn’t name any prices here yet.
