Sharp e-scooter: tech company builds first e-mobility solution

Technology company Sharp Consumer Electronics is entering the e-mobility market this spring with the launch of the Sharp E-Scooter, a practical and cost-effective means of transportation that also aims to protect the environment.

Sharp E-Scooter Unveiled

“These unique products combine Sharp’s century-old tradition with brand-new design,” says the announcement of the Sharp e-scooters, which are scheduled to launch in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, the UK, Poland, Spain and Portugal before the end of spring 2022.

Specifically, these are the two models Sharp EM-KS1, as well as EM-KS2. Both scooters have a minimalist, simple design with an elegant black finish. At 14.5 kg and 18.8 kg respectively, they are lightweight and can therefore be carried without any problems. Thanks to their folding function and practical suspension (only in the case of the EM-KS1), they can be stowed away without taking up much space.

Both e-scooters also have a USB charging port in the handlebars that can be used to charge smartphones while riding – for example, when using the smartphones as a navigation system.

Overwhelming range

The EM-KS1 model is made of aluminum alloy, steel and ABS, has 8.5-inch Honeycomb tires, 36V motor power (350W brushless motor) and 36V 6.6 Ah battery. The second model EM-KS2 is made of aluminum alloy and steel and has 10-inch pneumatic tires with the same motor power and a 36 V 10.4 Ah battery.

Fully charged, the EM-KS1 reaches a range of 25 km, and the EM-KS2 even 35 km. The maximum load capacity of both Sharp e-scooters is around 120 kg. Various optional accessories, such as a smartphone holder, are available for an optimal riding experience.

To coincide with the scooter launch, Sharp is introducing an app for controlling Sharp devices: the new Sharp Life app. This will now be used to control a majority of Sharp consumer products. It allows users to view the current status of the scooters, showing such things as battery level (as a percentage), distance traveled, and even saved trips. The app also acts as a key that can be used to lock and unlock the scooters remotely. Other remote control functions include headlight and running board light adjustment (exclusive to the EM-KS2), gear shifting and a speedometer.

IPX4 certification and safety

Dual rear suspension provides a stable ride even on uneven surfaces. Dual brakes are standard equipment on Sharp scooters: the rear mechanical disc brake and additional electric brake further enhance vehicle safety. After-sales service is available to customers, offering replacement parts when needed.

The IPX4 certification of the scooters guarantees resistance to adverse weather conditions such as rain, allowing the scooters to cross even small puddles without damage.

Prices and Availability

The two Sharp e-scooters are expected to be commercially available at an unspecified date in spring 2022. In terms of price, the EM-KS1 has an MSRP of 449.00 euros, while the EM-KS2 is priced at 599.00 euros.
