Sharp Sumobox: New portable party speaker unveiled

Sharp Consumer Electronics has launched a new high-performance portable speaker, the Sumobox. This speaker is designed to be used at a variety of events and activities, from festivals and events to street performances and sports lessons. The new Sumobox is comparable to the Soundboks, but with more oomph.

Technical specifications and performance

The Sharp Sumobox (CP-LS100) offers up to 105 dB of sound output through its 120 W RMS stereo speaker system. This system consists of 2 x 8-inch woofers and 2 x 2-inch tweeters. The Sumobox’s cabinet is made of wood, which contributes to the speaker’s acoustics. The angled design of the cabinet is intended to ensure optimal sound dispersion.

Using SAM® technology

The Sumobox is Sharp’s first product to integrate SAM® (Speaker Active Matching) technology from French high-end audio brand Devialet. This technology enables the Sumobox to produce deep and detailed bass with minimal audible distortion. The closed (unvented) design of the speakers is said to allow precise reproduction of audio files.

Ruggedness and adaptability

The Sumobox features a rugged appearance and adaptable design. The black industrial steel grille and silicone rubber corner protection balls add to the speaker’s durability and protect it during transport and use. The corner protection balls also allow the Sumobox to be positioned sideways when used as a monitor speaker. When the Sumobox is placed vertically or on a stand, the corner protectors can be removed and replaced with flat feet. Thanks to the three handles on the top and sides, the Sumobox is easy to position no matter how it is to be used.

Various connection options

The Sumobox’s pro panel offers a variety of connection options: three input channels, TRS/XLR combo (2x) with reverb, bass and treble adjustment, and aux/Bluetooth, all with independent level control. It’s easy to connect a keyboard, guitar or microphone and adjust levels with ease. The SumoBox can be wirelessly connected to another SumoBox in Duo mode for True Wireless Stereo (TWS) Bluetooth playback. Alternatively, the wired speaker connection can be used to link multiple SumoBoxes together and share input sources. For performances or events, the SumoBox can be attached to the bottom with a convenient, standard 1 3/8-inch speaker pole mount.

Replaceable battery and app control

The Sumobox features a removable, rechargeable 14.8V 5Ah lithium-ion battery that provides up to 10 hours of playtime. To prevent interruption of playback, the battery can be easily replaced with another in seconds. Alternatively, it is also possible to simply plug the Sumobox into the mains. The Sumobox can be controlled from anywhere in the room via the SharpLife app, adding to its versatility.

Price and Availability

Sharp has not yet shared any information about the price and availability of the Sharp Sumobox.
