SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini (Wireless): New gaming keyboards

The gaming and e-sports experts from SteelSeries have introduced new peripherals. On the one hand, the manufacturer wants to expand its Apex keyboard series, which has already won many awards. The new additions are called Apex Pro Mini and Apex Pro Mini Wireless. According to the manufacturer, they are supposed to be “smaller, faster and highly customizable”. As the name suggests, SteelSeries is going for a small form factor with both models. Thanks to the compact 60-percent design, the two keyboards should probably be able to fit easily on small desks. In addition, the new mechanical keyboard is supposed to score with OmniPoint 2.0. This system is supposed to guarantee an 11 times faster response time as well as a 10 times faster actuation. On top of that, the manufacturer promises that the keyboards are 2 times more durable than alternatives with conventional mechanical switches.

Compact design meets customizability

With its Apex Pro, SteelSeries has arguably launched the most customizable keyboard in the world. However, gaming setups are often cluttered these days due to more and more different peripherals in the form of controllers, mice and headsets. Accordingly, the demand for compact keyboards is growing steadily. To offer gamers with limited space the customizability of the Apex Pro, SteelSeries has launched its popular keyboard in a compact design. By customizability, SteelSeries primarily means its OmniPointSwitch. Here, the actuation can be completely adjusted. The technology now comes in the second generation for the two mini models.

So you can choose between 0.2 mm and 3.8 mm many individual actuation paths. On top of that, there are now dual-action button presses. This feature is supposed to make it possible to assign two actions to one button at the same time. Depending on the keystroke, one or the other action is then executed. Both newcomers share the compact design. However, there are differences in the connection. While you connect the Apex Pro Mini to the PC via a classic cable connection, the Apex Pro Mini Wireless offers a 2.4 GHz wireless connection.

Prices and Availability

The two new keyboards are available now. For the Apex Pro Mini, SteelSeries is asking for an MSRP of 199.99 euros. The Apex Pro Mini Wireless, on the other hand, launches at an MSRP of $259.99. The mini keyboards are available from SteelSeries itself or in retail stores. In combination with the gaming mice SteelSeries Aerox 5 or Aerox 9 and the two wireless headsets SteelSeries 7+ and 7P+, the two gaming keyboards could be the perfect addition.
