Although streaming providers such as Netflix, Disney+ and others suffered from increased inflation in the past year and subscription figures declined, streaming was still going strong in 2022. The international film and series database JustWatch has now published the 2022 streaming charts and reveals which 10 series and films were watched the most in Germany.

The streaming charts 2022 in the field of movies hold several surprises. Especially place 1 surprises here. Here, the action film Top Gun Maverick lands at number 1 in the charts. This is despite the fact that the blockbuster starring Tom Cruise was not released until the end of May 2022.

Nevertheless, many interested parties have apparently bought the film – it is available on almost all streaming platforms such as Apple TV or Amazon Prime Video. The film is only included free of charge in the Paramount+ offer, which was only launched in Germany on December 8.

Following on the podium are the films The Batman – also only launched in cinemas at the beginning of 2022 – and only available on Sky and Wow respectively, as well as in third place the Marvel blockbuster Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was already released on Disney+ around a month after its cinema release in May 2022.

The list of the most streamed series in the German streaming charts 2022 also holds some surprises. For example, the highly acclaimed Amazon production The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power only lands in 5th place on the charts, presumably due in part to the scathing reviews. The Netflix series Wednesday, although not launched until November 23, 2022, is even ahead of the story about Sauron and Co.

The Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon also ends up securing only second place in the top 10 most streamed series of 2022, with the Netflix production Stranger Things landing in first place. In total, five places from the top 10 go to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video is represented twice.
