Twinkly Squares: Modular LED panels with pixel look presented

Manufacturer Twinkly has so far become known mainly for various fairy lights. With the Twinkly Squares, they now presented an interesting concept that will soon be launched on the market. The square LED panels in modular design can be used creatively to display illuminated images in pixel look or information such as the time.

The Twinkly Squares in detail

With the Twinkly Squares, the manufacturer is now – or rather soon will be – following in the footsteps of Nanoleaf, as it did most recently with the Lines (our review), offering modular LED light panels. Each of the square pandels measures 16 x 16 cm and has a total of 64 LEDs.

What isn’t particularly exciting in and of itself becomes quite interesting, especially with the modular design. If you combine several of the small boxes on the wall, you can, for example, create pictures or pixel art displays in 8-bit look. And this can even be done as an animated GIF.

Of course, a completely free arrangement is also possible, while the Twinkly Squares can even be provided with widgets, for example, to display information about the weather, timer or the time.

Setting with the help of the smartphone

Concrete details are currently still scarce. However, it is at least known that the power supply is via USB Type-C and the light panels can be individually controlled and illuminated in different colors.

According to the pictures on the official homepage, the smartphone is apparently used to adjust and create the picture. A synchronization with the display of content on your own PC or notebook also seems to be possible.

In addition, the homepage promises compatibility with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Homey and Google Assistant smart home solutions, as well as syncing with Razer Chroma and HP Omen. Chroma support offers competition Nanoleaf yes since last year as well.

Prices and availability

The manufacturer plans to reveal more details about the Twinkly Squares soon, as the LED light panels are scheduled for release as early as September 2022. The manufacturer has not yet provided any information on prices. Apparently, however, the Squares are available both individually and in a bundle with three or more light cubes.
