With the Vivo X Fold, the manufacturer has unveiled an exciting foldable that attacks the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G. Highlights are a 120 Hz LTPO AMOLED panel, a powerful SoC, and a quad camera with a Zeiss lens. We have summarized all the info
Vivo X Fold: The strong foldable in detail
Foldable fans beware, because the Vivo X Fold unveiled yesterday has a lot going for it. Vivo relies on a foldable display with a diagonal of 8.03 inches including a Full HD+ resolution and an LTPO OLED panel that dynamically adjusts the frame rate between 1 Hz and 120 Hz. When folded, the display has a size of 6.53 inches and also offers a dynamic OLED panel with Full HD+.
Thanks to Schott Ultra Thin Glass (UTG), the display is also effectively protected from scratches, while the hinge can be folded around 300,000 times according to the manufacturer. So, if you fold the smartphone 100 times every day, no problems are supposed to occur even after more than eight years.
The hinge built into the display also allows the smartphone to be used at an angle of 60 to 90 degrees so that the X Fold can be placed on a table, for example. There are also two fingerprint sensors: one in the folding display and one on the main display.
The current flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip is at work inside, joined by 12 GB of LPDDR5 working memory and either 256 GB or 512 GB of UFS 3.1 system storage. The Vivo X Fold supports Wi-Fi 6 as well as Bluetooth 5.2. Android 12 is used as the operating system of the 311-gram device ex-factory.
Vivo also installs a 4,600 mAh battery that can be charged quickly with 66 watts via cable. Wirelessly, a maximum charging speed of 50 watts is offered.
Vivo X Fold with quad camera from Zeiss
With a strong camera setup, the Vivo X Fold also blows the attack on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G, because the manufacturer does not compromise here. A 50-megapixel main camera with Samsung’s ISOCELL GN5 sensor in a 1/1.57-inch format (f/1.75 aperture) and optical image stabilization (OIS) is offered, as well as a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 114-degree field of view (f/2.2).
Both cameras are complemented by a 12 MP telephoto camera with Sony IMX663 sensor for portrait shots, as well as an 8 megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and OIS. Both displays also feature a 16 megapixel selfie camera, which has been placed in a punch hole.
Display clears dream scores at the ready
The display of the Vivo X Fold has already been analyzed by the website DisplayMate and received dream scores. The testers achieved a pixel density of 360 PPI (rating: excellent) and attested the foldable a very good picture quality in color management, as well as an excellent quality in pictures in the DCI-P3 and sRGB range.
In the process, the display achieves a brightness of up to 807 nits over the entire surface and reaches a peak brightness of 1,092 cd/m² when displaying HDR content, both of which are excellent values.
Prices and Availability
So far, the Vivo X Fold has only been announced for the Chinese market, where it will start with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for 8,999 yuan, which is the equivalent of around 1,295 euros. Doubling the storage to 512 GB results in a price of just under 1,437 Euros. It is unclear if and when the foldable will also come to Germany. For comparison: The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G with 256 GB storage currently costs 1,549.99 Euros in Germany.
