Vodafone eSIM: Thanks to push method, activation without QR code and ePIN for the first time in Germany

Acceptance of eSIM cards in Germany is growing. The digital SIM cards, which are stored directly in the smartphone, are also becoming increasingly popular in this country. Especially since the setup process for compatible devices takes just a few seconds. The whole thing works even faster with the new Vodafone eSIM, because thanks to eSIM Push you benefit from an activation method that is unique in Germany.

Vodafone eSIM now with eSIM push

There are now around 500,000 eSIM cards active in Germany, according to a report from Vodafone. By the end of the fiscal year, the number is expected to rise to one million. Vodafone customers will benefit additionally thanks to the new eSIM Push. This is a unique activation method in Germany that does not require any paper at all.

“When purchasing an eSIM-enabled smartphone with a term tariff in the online store, the eSIM is now preselected and firmly coupled with the device,” writes Vodafone in the corresponding announcement.

Thus, the setup will be even faster in the future. The SIM profile is simply downloaded to the smartphone at the touch of a button and activated. Without the need for a QR code or the entry of an ePIN.

Anyone who buys an eSIM-enabled smartphone directly from Vodafone with a fixed-term rate plan will benefit from the new method. The eSIM is downloaded conveniently during the initial setup or at any time via the device settings. The profile is permanently linked to the device or to the globally unique eSIM chip serial number (EID).

The preselected eSIM can also be simply deselected at the time of purchase to switch to a classic SIM card if desired. With the new eSIM push process, Vodafone also wants to do something for the environment as part of its Mission Green, as this means the entire process is realized without paper, plastic and completely digitally.

Advantage of the eSIM

An eSIM (“embedded SIM”) is downloaded and activated within a very short time. In the case of Vodafone, it can also be easily moved to another smartphone. The QR code and ePIN are permanently stored in the MyVodafone app/web and can be easily transferred to a new smartphone.

To use a Vodafone eSIM, you currently need a term contract. However, it will probably also be possible to use it with CallYa rates from August. An Internet connection via WLAN or the mobile network is also required to activate the profile.
