Xiaomi 13 prices: When will the smartphones become cheaper?

At the Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona, Xiaomi announced the launch of the Xiaomi 13 series with the 13, 13 Pro and 13 Lite versions for the German market – at partly steep prices. This begs the question: When will the Xiaomi 13 prices drop? And is it worth the wait?

Xiaomi 13 prices: When the new smartphones will be cheaper

Xiaomi is undoubtedly installing impressive technology in the new Xiaomi 13 series smartphones. However, 120 hertz fast OLED display, impressive professional cameras especially in the Xiaomi 13 Pro and a charging speed of up to 120 watts also take their toll.

Because the Chinese manufacturer also tightens the price screw considerably more than in the predecessor generation of smartphones. At least 999.90 Euros are due for the Xiaomi 13, and it is even at least 1,299.90 Euros for the Xiaomi 13 Pro. This begs the question when the Xiaomi 13 prices will drop.

The price search engine Idealo once again jumps into the breach, as it did for example with the iPhone 14 price, and ventures a Xiaomi 13 price forecast. Here, they reckon that the Xiaomi 13 should be around a third cheaper after just three months.

Xiaomi 13 series: price could drop significantly after three months

For the price forecast, Idealo analyzed the price development of the respective predecessor models from 2022 and took identical storage variants, i.e. 8 GB or 12 B RAM and 256 GB system storage, to the chest.

Here, a strong price drop already occurred within the first three months after the sales launch last year, which is also expected for the prices of the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro.

According to this, the Xiaomi 13 could cost just under 690 euros as early as mid-June 2023, which would correspond to a saving of around 31 percent. The price of the Pro model could also drop significantly in the same period. A price of around 1,008 Euros is expected, which is still around 22% less than the manufacturer’s RRP.

The forecast shows that the price drop is highest in the first three months after the market launch, but it should drop continuously over a year, at least for the Xiaomi 13 – at least if it behaves like last year.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro could briefly increase in price again after about half a year, i.e. in September or October 2023 (the price has already dropped significantly by then), before the devices will be at 900 Euros and about 500 Euros, respectively, after about a year.

Compared to the recommended retail price of the Xiaomi 13, the price would then be roughly halved after about a year.

So if you can wait, you can save cash when buying the Xiaomi 13 series. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the Xiaomi 13 prices will actually take the course that Idealo predicts here. However, it is almost certain that the smartphones will become cheaper over time. You should be able to save money especially in the summer.
