In early 2022, the optional laptop water cooling system from XMG went on sale, and now the manufacturer is releasing a new version that comes with numerous improvements. Among other things, the XMG Oasis (Rev. 2) offers hardware modifications for smoother running, improved resistance of heavily stressed components and simplified handling during maintenance.
XMG Oasis (Rev. 2): The innovations in detail
With the Oasis laptop water cooling system, XMG has been able to greatly improve the cooling of its gaming laptops. It is able to reduce the temperature of the processor and graphics card by around 20 degrees as well as provide more performance, especially on the CPU side. In addition, it enables a significantly quieter operation, especially when gaming.
Meanwhile, the Oasis is compatible with many of the manufacturer’s notebooks, such as the recently introduced XMG APEX 15 MAX or XMG Neo 17 (M22). Now they are relaunching the water cooling system as the XMG Oasis (Rev. 2) and equipping it with some improvements.
These include, for example, thumbscrews and hoses with improved grip (groove structure) for easier, tool-free assembly, but also a more resistant material for the hose connections.
Here, the manufacturer relies on POM (polyoxymethylene) in the new edition, which is more durable and compatible with a wider range of coolants with chemical additives.
“Based on previous experience with distilled water (deionized and UV-irradiated according to DIN 13060, DIN 43530 & EN 285) in combination with a replacement every 3 months, this coolant remains the official recommendation of XMG and thus continues to be part of the standard scope of supply,” says the manufacturer.
Better mounting and software
Further improved shows the XMG Oasis (Rev. 2) the attachment of the side panels to the case. It now allows for even easier and safer disassembly and reassembly for accessing the interior.
The pump housing gets optimized insulation to slightly reduce vibration transmission. And there’s new XMG branding on the top of the case as well.
The manufacturer also addresses one of the biggest criticisms of laptop water cooling. When idling, the Oasis is now also capable of automatically shutting down at low temperatures.
Only when the workload increases again, the water cooling activates itself again. However, you have to use the new firmware version 22.214.171.124, which can be downloaded via the XMG Control Center app. If you use an XMG NEO notebook, the latest EC firmware update is also necessary.
Price and Availability
The XMG Oasis (Rev. 2) notebook water cooling system can be ordered from the manufacturer’s store at bestware.com. The MSRP is 199.00 Euros – the new model can be recognized by the XMG logo on the top.
In the meantime, the water cooling can also be ordered separately in single or double versions, it was previously only available in combination with a notebook. The delivery in combination with newly ordered, compatible NEO and CORE laptops was already changed to Rev. 2 a few weeks ago.
