XPG has introduced the Defender Pro, a new case that is a bit out of the ordinary. Unlike the other cases from the gaming company, it has a very eye-catching design. XPG’s previous cases “Battlecruiser” and “Invader” had a rather plain appearance. Especially the front of the Defender Pro should become a real eye-catcher in many PC setups.
Only the outside is different
The XPG Defender Pro differs from its predecessors at first glance. However, Adata’s gaming brand also relies on tried and true. This is at least the case with the build. XPG gives the user a lot of freedom here. Components like E-ATX mainboard, cooler and graphics card can be installed in pretty much any size. These are then installed in the main part of the case. The power supply and HDD cage are located above it. Two HDDs in the size of 2.5 or 3.5 inches can be inserted here. Two more 2.5-inch drives can be mounted behind the main board. Considering the Defender Pro’s premium price, hobbyists can also look forward to a real cage on the tower HDD tray. Cheaper cases meanwhile do away with such possibilities.
Special front with RGB
On top of that, a special riser cable enables vertical mounting of the graphics card. This is at least possible if the dimensions of the cooler are not too wide. But the slightly different mounting of the graphics card brings disadvantages. You can’t avoid mounting the fans directly in front of the glass panel. This inevitably leads to a more difficult air supply. Accordingly, vertical mounting of the graphics card should only be used if water cooling is used anyway.
A radiator can be installed directly behind the front. The XPG Defender Pro offers space for a 360 mm model. In addition, a radiator can be mounted under the lid. However, there is “only” room for 280 mm radiators. The front of the case is particularly chic. This is not only due to the special mesh, which is hidden behind a kind of garden fence pattern. Only the combination with RGB lighting rounds off the cool design. The ARGB fans, which are already part of the scope of delivery, provide the necessary lighting effects. They can be installed directly behind the front and at the back. The matching controller is also included in the purchase price.
Price and availability
XPG seems to be doing quite a bit right with the Defender Pro. However, those who have now become interested in the optionally black or white case will have to be patient for a while. XPG has not yet presented a release date. The case is supposed to be launched in the US at an MSRP of 100 US dollars.
